Roger Strand, owner of Strand Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc., says the training and experience of the professionals at his company allow them to avoid a lot of problems that other companies let slip by. "We like to think of ourselves as the solution to the problem (of faulty work) actually, we provide solutions before they become problems," said Strand. The Utah native says his company specializes in handling unique heating and air conditioning needs, providing customized systems if necessary. What exactly would a customized air system be? Well, for example. Previous articles were: a marketing oveniew and tips on using the Internet. "There's gold in them thar foreign countries!" Tourism long ago replaced mining as Park City's staple industry. So don't be surprised to hear grizzled veterans of the town's tourist trade muttering this phrase as they point at their maps and squint off into the distance. According to industry experts, the really precious stuff does lie overseas: rich veins of untapped tourists especially skiers. Looking outside the U.S. for tourist markets is nothing new. For instance, both Park City Ski Area and Deer Valley Resort have been involved for some time with Ski Utah and Ski USA, which market local and national ski "products" in places like Europe, Japan and Australia. Both men also said international tourists tend to stay longer, making them a more dependable source of revenue. In addition. Smith said the international tourist market may be of special interest to locals who are fed up with overcrowding. "One thing that I think is interesting for the Park City community is that foreign tourists are true visitortourists. They don't move into the places they visit. They come, they see, and they move on," said Smith. International marketing can be an intimidating prospect for a small, local business with a limited budget. However, small businesses can still get in on the act, said Weichsel. "There's strength in numbers in advertising." "Temperatures can get pretty high, under those lights, in a recording studio. They need a lot of air conditioning, but they can't have the sound," said Strand. His device, Strand says, basically shoots cool air out one side of a studio wall. and releases the noise an air duct normally makes out of the other side. It can reduce the decibels within a studio or sound stage from almost 60, to single digits all but inaudible. Inventiveness was just one of the advantages Strand claimed he has over his competitors. Strand also claimed a greater and more up-to-date knowledge of the industry than most other heating and air conditioning specialists. He then proceeded to back up that claim with a couple of tips for Park City homeowners. "Houses are so well-sealed here that you don't get any fresh air. If you get a cold (the contaminated air) just sits and sits and you continually get colds," Strand said. Homes here in Park City, often sealed almost airtight air-tight against the cold, require special ventilation, he added. Inadequate venting can cause a buildup of carbon monoxide (CO), which can, in turn, lead to a variety of health problems.
