Rennstall won three straight games to claim the senior division championship champi-onship Wednesday, June 28. After winning their opener against Wolf Mountain 1-0 in a shcxrtout the teams played to a 3-3 tie in regulation time Rennstall fell to 3-2 to Pete's Team, named for team leader Pete Karkoska. in the first game in the winners' win-ners' bracket. The win vaulted Pete's Team into the finals needing but one victory to win the championship. But Rennstall regrouped. After Big A eliminated Wolf Mountain 6-2 in the losers' bracket. Rennstall sent Big A packing with a 4-1 win in the semifinals. semi-finals. R.J. Guiney scored with one minute left to play to put the game on ice and set up the rematch with Pete's Team. The double elimination format meant Rennstall had to knock off Pete's Team to force a second, winner-take-all championship game. They did just that, winning 5-2 to reduce the senior tournament to a one-game one-game affair. That final game was marred early in the match when Rennstall player Susan Gaylord was injured by a brutal check in the corner. Gaylord was carried car-ried off the rink and required 15 stitches stitch-es to close an injury over her eye. The injury sparked the Rennstall crew. Losing Gaylord and teammate Will Goldsmith (KMT trained. Goldsmith accompanied Gaylord to the clinic). Rennstall played with live skaters but goaltender Brian Burnett backstopped the team as they pulled out to a 4-0 lead. Pete's Team rebounded and cut the lead in half with a pair of goals, but Kyle Wieche put the game out of reach late in the second half. Burnett was named senior league MVP for the first season of the 1995 roller hockey summer at Wolf Mountain. According to Stumpf. Burnett was given the award "for his outstanding attitude and hustle." RETROACTIVE Patients who are recovering Irom knee of calf injuries often find that running or walking makes their knees hurt In such cases, it may be of help to try walking or running backwards. "Retro" Walking and running provides a good workout, without subecting the knees to as much strain It also helps strengthen the abdominal and back muscles, as well as the quadriceps and hamstrings A recently completed small study at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas Pointed out that walking backwards briskly is as strenuous as running forward at a slow to moderate pace.
