While Allan Garcia churned out pink cotton $aridy, many other hotel staff members helped to make an event called Springfest a success. ; Starting at 10 a.m., locals and Visitors brought their children to play all afternoon at a sports park set up by the Radisson next to the hotel. Booths were arranged so that kids could try their skills at batting, pitching, soccer, and hockey, winning inflatable toys for giving it their best. Kiddie idol Barney and Radcliff the Gorilla toured the grounds with sales manager Cindy Galli snapping photographs for any takers. There was a moon walk and camel rides on a one-humped camel named Clyde, and Dazzle the clown painted faces while Sammy "T" clown arranged balloons into amazing shapes. There was even a car wash making Springfest a practical stop for adults. Some area businesses made. $100 cash donations to the event while other businesses donated all of the food and drinks that were served throughout the day until 7 p.m. The idea for Springfest arose out of the use of the Radisson's pool by ;the Special Olympic kias. A lack in state funding prompted the Radisson to donate the use of their facilities weekly for regular activities. "We decided then," said Garcia, "because of the state's Olympic bid, that we could do our part to promote the Olympic kickoff. The Radisson also wanted to do something for a good cause mm """" J sJ- $ f r - mil. r 1 IllfflillfillIll : f" ' W ? Radcliff the gorilla and many clowns also entertained the kids. and give back to the community for the event. "By the efcd of the day, we made $1,500 for the Special Olympics," said Thompson. Considering the success of Springfest, the Radisson sales staff intends to make it an annual event years of their support."
