Black, owner of Gazelle, LTD., specializes in what she calls "wearable art;" unique pieces of clothing that could be hung on somebody's wall as easily as on someone's back. Located in Deer Valley's Mount Cervin Plaza, Gazelle carries a variety of hand painted sweaters, "We're pretty unique. I don't think there's anybody doing such a cross-section cross-section of work" Amanda Banks jackets, suits and pants from artists across America. Gazelle stocks more than clothing, however. According to Black, her stores also offer a variety of fine jewelry, pottery and hand-painted furniture. "We're pretty unique," she said. While other stores carry clothing or art gallery-type pottery, "I don't think there's anybody doing such a cross-section of work," she said. "It's a very controlled type of artistic work." Black said she carries a variety of works including, hand-painted silk jackets by American artist Tim Harding. According to Black, the jackets, which are made of a very light Japanese silk, are quite unusual. decorative, hand painted wool-suede wool-suede jackets and skirts by Santa Fe-based Char Designs. "techno-romantic" jewelry by Thomas Mann. Based in New Orleans, Black described Mann's jewelry as a "combination of different metals that are whimsical and fun, but well made." All the work is not only hand made, it's made in America. But it's not cheap. Prices range from $20 to $1500. Black, whose other three stores are in Washington D.C. and Baltimore, opened her first store out of a converted barn in 1980. She has come a long way since. Currently, Black represents roughly 350 different artists from all corners of the United States. Many of the works come from Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico. Black, who bought a second home in Deer Valley five years ago, said she had been watching the local market and waiting for the opportunity to open a store ever since. She opened the Mount Cervin store Sunday, Jan. 24. Unlike her east coast stores, Black said this store will have much more of a western flavor. For the second time this year, one of Adamski-Peek's photographs is featured on the cover of a national publication. Printed on the cover of the February 1993 issue of Skiing Magazine is a razor-sharp razor-sharp photograph of Italian racer Alberto Tomba. Adamski-Peek shot the photograph at the 1991 World Cup slalom races in Park City. Clearly visible on Tomba's bib are the words "Park City." A second Adamski-Peek photograph appears on the cover of the February 1993 issue of Outdoor Retailer. Regarding the Tomba photo, however, Adamski-Peek Adamski-Peek is especially pleased. "The picture is really sharp it's kind of like the perfect race shot," she said.
