FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE CALL 649-1228 Park City snow removal crews gearing up The Park City Public Works Department is teaming up to make your winter a breeze. Crews are well-prepared for snow removal and winter conditions. Below are several helpful hints and procedures to prevent problems caused by the cold weather. From November 1 through April 30, snow-removal crews are prepared to work around the clock. For public safety reasons, streets with the most traffic will be cleared first, then we will plow second-and second-and third-priority routes after the previous are cleared. A brochure showing priority routes is being mailed to all Park City residents. City crews aill do their best to work around parked vehicles. However, they will be forced to impound vehicles in the direct way of snow removal. By reading the following regulations and restrictions, you will avoid any inconvenience caused by the snow-removal snow-removal process. Parking is not permitted on the downhill side of any street in the Old Town area, with the exception of Main Street, Swede Alley and Park Avenue north of Heber Avenue. Parking is not permitted on Main Street or Park Avenue, from the stop light at Empire Avenue to the end of Heber Avenue from 2-6 am. The Park City Police Department may declare a snow-removal snow-removal emergency if there is a major storm. During emergencies, vehicles will be impounded if parked on first-priority streets. If your car is towed, call the Park City Police Impound at 645-5050. Clearing driveways is a resident's responsibility. However, after a storm is over, the city will help clear any driveway entrance still blocked. Also, remember that mail is delivered by the mail carrier from his car. To assure prompt delivery of your mail, please clear your mailbox area so it is easily accessible by vehicle. The city right-of-way extends back five to eight feet from the curb line for snow storage. Please have any fencing, trees, lot comers and ornamental rocks in the area clearly marked. If you live on a private street, you are responsible for arranging snow removal. Contact your homeowners association to see who is responsible for this service. The city provides limited sidewalk and stairway clearing. Sidewalks that receive this service are on Main Street, Park Avenue and Kearns Boulevard. Bike paths are cleared from Main Street to Prospector Park. Stairways in Old Town are cleared, based on a high-use high-use priority. The Parks Department attempts to have snow cleared in these areas within eight hours from the end of a storm. However, there is no guarantee that your sidewalk or stairway will be cleared. City ordinance requires that adjacent property owners to stairways and sidewalks are responsible for snow removal. For your safety, tall poles are placed by fire hydrants on public streets. Homeowners on private streets are responsible for staking fire hydrants and uncovering them 72 hours after a snowstorm. If you notice a fire hydrant that has not been marked, please call Public Works at 645-5121. In the case of new subdivisions, no city snow removal is provided until 50 percent build out has occurred. Tips on thawing out. December, January and February are the 'coldest months of the winter when sub-zero temperatures and wind-chill factors can freeze water lines and break pipes. Before cold weather sets in, check for adequate insulation around water lines that enter your home. Check crawl spaces for exposed water lines and any openings that may allow cold air to enter. If a problem occurs, please call the Park City Water Department at 645-5127. Someone will be dispatched and a door hanger will notify you of problems found and recommended actions. If you hire someone to assist, be sure they are reputable, licensed in Park City, and carry adequate insurance coverage Information and emergencies.
