So come on in, uu'r nin f nil., i.-j.. d..,.j For the fourth time in the 75-year 75-year history of the Veterans' Life Insurance Program, mor than $1 billion in dividends will be paid in 1992 to veterans holding active policies, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced. VA Secretary Edward J. Derwinski said, "these dividends are made possible because veterans are living longer than predicted, and the insurance trust funds are earning high yields from investment in long-term government securities." In addition to the immediate benefit for veterans, the economy will also get a boost according to Derwinski: "Putting one billion dollars into the economy should have a positive and stimulating effect." Affected are some 2.6 million veterans of World Wards I and II, and the Korean Conflict whose accounts will be automatically credited on the anniversary of their policies. In Utah, 15,181 veteran-policyholders veteran-policyholders will receive nearly $5.75 million in VA insurance dividends. Policyholders may choose to receive a dividend check or select one of five alternate payment options. No application from individual policyholders is necessary. WWI veterans in Utah will share BLM to discuss wild horse roundup The Bureau of Land Management has scheduled a public meeting to discuss the use of motor vehicles during next summer's planned roundups of excess wild horses from Utah rangelands. The meeting will focus on the use of helicopters in gathering operations and the use of motor vehicles to transport captured animals. It will take place January 9 at 7 p.m. in the Salt Lake District Office conference room located at 2370 South 2300 West, Salt Lake City. According to Larry Maxfield, BLM Wild Horse Specialist, using helicopters to locate and then drive herds of horses is a long-standing practice that produces safe, efficient results. "The BLM's annual meeting on capture and transportation methods gives us an opportunity to reiterate our procedures as well as discuss what areas we plan to remove horses from in the coming year," said Maxfield. During 1992, probably starting in late June, the BLM plans to remove a total of 360 wild horses from 6 different herds spread across the state. Herds targeted for removals are the Onaqui herd in Tooele County, the Hill Creek herd in Uinta County, the Frisco and Sulphur herds located in Iron County, and the Range Creek herd that roams in Carbon County. "This year's roundups are critical due to the effects of 4 to 5 years of drought," said Maxfield. "Many areas that usually have ample supplies of forage are still depleted."
