Ask a librarian for help with the machine. 1 00 years ago First came the rainmaker, now it's the ore wizard. Right on the heels of the rainmaker and the cloud smasher, comes the wizard who can locate ore veins and bodies as accurately as if he had created the earth and put the mineral bodies in place himself. He is not a fraud, but another Edison, and through the application of science has discovered a method by which mineral bodies may be located with more accuracy than the old water-witch could find an underground spring or stream with his witch hazel or his apple switch. His name is Prof. L. J. Chiropractic Outlook By Donald A. Coler, D.C. ADHESIVE CAPSULITIS FROZEN SHOULDER DESCRIPTION: Lack of normal range of motion in the shoulder SYMPTOMS: Tightness and soreness in the shoulder joint limiting movement move-ment primarily In abduction, flexion and external rotation. If he can do all that is claimed for him, the occupation of the prospector is gone, and with his little pile he can employ the professor to locate the ore body for him, and at once go to taking out ore, instead of groping blindly for days and perhaps years with indifferent success. The Denver News of the 30th, contained a long account of the experiment made by the expert under the direction of Gov. H. Batcheldcr, a prominent mining man of Denver and a member of the Colorado Mining Exchange. Batcheldcr had no confidence in the man, but together they went out to Emmons property, with the following results, as told by Mr. Batcheldcr: "Well, they went over the ground looking only at his instrument. The man with him was familiar with the number of lodes (next to the Park Record Building) vJJ U i Letterheads Flyers Envelopes Tickets Laminating Typesetting Business Forms Brochures Business Cards Posters Menu's Weddings PICK UP AND DELIVERY IN PARK CITY 0 and from a cynic skeptic he soon became an ardent believer for the professor told him where all the veins were very accurately, and described them perfecdy. "He indicated a certain point, where he said the ore would be found near surface. A pick and shovel were procured and after digging only five feet an excellent body of ore was found, and we have already shipped a number of carloads from it without exhausting the pocket. He indicated ore in a number of places that were then carefully staked out and later the ore was found. Many other places and mines were visited, and in every instance the expert located veins and discovered many unknown ore bodies. If an investigation should prove the truth of these statements and that this is a genuine "ore finder' the mining business will be revolutionized in the west. Con man makes off with Tigs. An elderly appearing woman stopped at a corner fruit stand on woodward avenue and purchased a pound of figs. "Something for the children," said the woman. "As if apologizing for the indulgence in" the delicacies. Before she had reached the opposite side of the street the woman was overtaken by a man who would have been genteel looking, but for the general sccdiness of his appearance. He was evidently on no good terms with the world. "Beg pardon madam," he said, politely, as he laid one hand gently American Heart (I f) Association For all your printing needs, see us first! 654-1471 FAX: 654-4479 MB on the lady's shoulder, "but did you not just purchase some figs from yonder fruit stand?" "I did, answered the old lady, wondering." "Are you aware of the prevailing weakness of that man's figs?" "No." "Ah, I thought not. Then I'll tell you. It is worms. The fruit you have purchased is fairly alive with bacteria." "You don't say!" exclaimed the woman, almost ready t drop the package. "Yes, I know it. I am collecting evidence against the Dago. I need just such a purchase you have made to complete my claim of damning evidence. Let me take that and confront him with his perfidity. Thanks! Watch the papers tomorrow for the news of his arrest." And, while the innocent old lady stood on the corner in wide-mouthed wide-mouthed amazement, the seedy man disappeared in the crowds with the last link in his chain of evidence. 50 years ago Mining superstitions The mining industry, like other branches of our complex life, has its believers in the do's and don'ts of legends and superstitions, a majority of mine superstitions date to other regions and are so old that their sources are obscured in antiquity, while others are local and offer obvious explanations as to origin. Typical of the more ancient superstitions is the belief in the infallibility of the common rat as a portent of impending disasters. According to the belief, a tunnel or a mine overrun with fat contented rats is a safe place to work, while conversely, a tunnel from which rats are leaving is in imminent rnv 10 Joan Peets Bev Dickson Sharon Nelson Vi Dawson David Blaiswell Mary Ely Pam Rapplean Peggy Moench Carmella Bovi Judy Zenger Rob Greene Natalie Holder Cal Massey Don Shumacher Heather Circo Vickie Voshall Kathy Park Marshall Park 11 12 Are You Making A WE Reusable Diapers Class Cleaner All Purpose Cleaner Toilet Bowl Cleaner Pine Cleaner Spot Remover Furniture Polish Laundry Detergent MANY OF THE CLEANING PRODUCTS YOU ARE PRESENTLY USING ARE TOXIC-FULL OF PHOSPHATES-AND CAN EVEN BE FATAL! There is a similarity between this belief and that of sailors that rats leaving a ship constitute a sure sign of danger ahead. Another example of a very old superstition is the widespread belief that whistling in a mine drives away the "good spirit" and old miners can cite multiple case histories to back it up. Another, is that cave-ins are more likely to happen between midnight, and four in the morning and in consequence miners are more careful during the danger period. With Halloween just around the corner, you better remember to throw the salt over the shoulder and knock on wood. Superstition in the 20th century is alive and well. 25 years ago New Park Mining shows bjg gains New Park Mining Co. earnings were up substantially during the first eight month of 1966 over a year ago. This year's theme is "Think Safety Everyday. In Utah, 1,283 school buses make 2,096 round trips each school day, carrying 107,573 students. Each year in the United States, about 100 students are killed and 8,600 are injured by motorists who ignore flashing lights and warning signs posted on the school buses. Though Utah had no fatalities last year, five children were hurt in bus accidents. Though Utah law is explicit about passing school buses when their red lights are flashing, many motorists in Park City flaunt the law and seriously endanger the safety of students entering and exiting buses. The Park City School District has an excellent record for bus safety, so please help them maintain this fine record. It isn't. This term merely means that something can be recvcled. Some manufacturers put it on their products to confuse consumers. Don't be impressed when you see it on a paper bag, for example-almost all paper is recyclable, what count3 is whether it's already been recycled. The Recycling' Center is located on Shortline Drive behind the Silver King Bank. i .. r !vj , f ., m ! ' - ' ' ' $ ' ' .; , . - . i : |
