Show School Brief s Park Record Thursday, September 26, 1991 Page A9 Headstart registration Sept. 20 at McPolin Headstart registration will be held from noon to 3 p.m. McPolin Elementary in the pre-school room. Headstart is a free pre-school program designed to meet the needs of four-year-old children from low income families. Your child must be four by Sept. 1st and your family must meet income guidelines. To find out if you qualify bring income verification (1040, W-2 or pay stubs from the last three months. Also bring immunization records and your childs birth certificate. Children will attend Tuesday through Friday for four hours each day. A morning snack and school lunch will be provided. If you have additional questions, call Linda Singer or Patty McComb at McPolin Elementary at 645-5630. Community education classes offered for fall The Park City Community Education Department will be offering classes for the fall quarter. They will continue to offer the ever-popular computer, foreign language and craft courses along with some new cooking, English and physical fitness courses. Several classes begin the first of October, so register early by calling Robyn or Brenda at 645-5600. 645-5600. PC TASK holds public forum for local youth PC TASK, (Park City for Kids) will be holding a student forum with youth leaders at the Z-Place on Thursday, Sept. 26th at 7 p.m. Any interested persons with views on how the community could be a better host for the young is urged to attend. Women get career boost from PHD in science, math Saturday, Nov. 2 Dr. Juliana Boerio Gates will be giving high school age women encouragement in mathematics and science at Utah Valley Community College from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Typically, women drop out of these courses before men which will limit their career opportunities. The conference is designed to foster awareness of careers, develop contacts with females in working occupations and assist parents and educators in the encouragement of math and science interests in young ladies. High school students host wetland cleanup day at site Tony Winterer's high school botony classes are hosting a cleanup project which will focus on preserving the wetlands behind the Treasure Mountain Middle School. The event is Tuesday, Oct. 1 and is sponsored by Hardees, McDonalds and Alhertsons. A raffle will be held to give away ski tickets, concert tickets and other items. Food and refreshments will be served on site. Town meeting slated Oct. 2 and Oct. 1 6 on impact fees Representative Glen Brown will be hosting two town meetings for the purpose of discussing inipact fees. The impact fee will generate money anytime a new home is built. Brown wants to see whether or not the people will sponsor such a plan. The meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at Parley's Park Elementary and Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at McPolin Elementary. Rabies vaccination clinic sponsored in Taylorsville The Department of Human Services and Animal Services decided with the recent confirmed case of rabies in the local area to hold a one day low cost rabies vaccination clinic on Sept. 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 pm. at Taylorsville Park, 4700 South and Redwood Rd. The price is $6. Dogs are required to be vaccinated every two years and cats every year. All dogs and cats are to be restrained by lease or carrier. Goodwin leaves Chamber V' - J . f i i m Construction Former PCHS student nabs begins on scholarship in Japan Miver Lake townhomes Greg Goodwin Greg Goodwin, director of business and economics for the Park City Chamber Bureau has resigned his post and taken the position of executive director of the Jackson Hole Chamber bureau. His last day in Park City is Oct. 4 and he will start his new job on Oct. 7. "It's a great challenge," said Goodwin. "There are 15 employees and an operating budget of $600,000. The area does an amazing amount of summer traffic with Yellowstone National Park and they need someone who can balance out their winter season. It is a comfortable change," said Goodwin. The vacant post is scheduled to be filled with someone who has the same qualities as Goodwin, said Executive Director of the Park City Chamber, Russ Vecnema. PCHS Spirit Week victors The winners of the PCHS Spirit Week events are: Cori Smith won the hat contest, Evan Ketover won the tie contest, the sophomores won the pie eating contest and the tug-o-war, the freshmen and juniors won the powdcrpuff game, the king was Eric Francis and the queen was Janet Jonas. Groups meet Sept 29 thru October 5 Park City's meeting and convention properties report that 19 organizations plan to meet locally during the Sept. 29- Oct. 5 week. Construction is now underway on the first of eight clustered buildings in a new ski-inski-out condominium development in Deer Valley's Silver Lake area, between Silver Lake Lodge and Sterlingwood. The project pro-ject will consist of (30) two and three bedroom townhomes, ranging in size from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet. Four townhomes, as well as the ski room and pool area, are scheduled for completion by Christmas, 1991. Detailed information will be available in late September from marketing agent Jon Olch of The Prudential-Coleman Real Estate firm. The Silver Lake Inn is being developed by the Silverlake Development Corporation. The townhome project design, was drawn by Salt Lake City 1990 Parade of Homes award-winning architect Jim Carroll. Wade applied for the scholarship in June among 40 other aspiring grantees. The scholarship required the completion of a written Japanese test. Wade also placed fourth in a Japanese speech contest in New York City in August. Each finalist gave a five minute speech on the topic, "The cultural difference between Japan and America." The prize was $200 as well as airfare to New York. Wade plans to continue his Japanese education and eventually attend law school making a career out of international law.
