Show Page C4 Thursday, November Speaker talks on Olympics The Park City Foundation for the Arts and Humanities is offering offer-ing a free lecture, The Olympic Games in Ancient Greece, December 5 at 7 p.m. in the Morning Mor-ning Ray Cafe and Bakery on Main Street. The lecture, the second in a , series of three, will be given by Dr. James T. Svendsen of the University of Utah. In this lecture, lec-ture, Svendsen concentrates first on the relationship of athletics to education, religion and culture in ancient Greece and, second, on the place of the games in general and the Panhellenic games in Greek myth, art and literature. Dr. Svendsen is an associate professor of classics and theatre at the University of Utah and is founder and director of the Greek Classic Festival Theatre. P0Lr a mvuntumi 'J " ;. ; i f mm g founder Original play performed DeGruchy's Mantle, an original play written and directed by John Newman, will open at the Lab Theatre, located at the University of Utah's Performing Arts ' Building, beginning November 29. Inspired by a Normand legend, DeGruchy's Mantle was one of four plays selected last year by the American College Theatre Festival to be read at the regional finals where it received the Meritorious Achievement Award. It was also selected as a finalist in the S.E. Region Young Playwright's Festival at Theatre Winter Haven in 1989. . DeGruchy's Mantle is the story of five teenage sisters who inherit a magic mantle from their deceased, widowed mother and use it unwisely. Not believing that the mantle possesses magic powers, each sister, unknowingly holding the mantle, makes a wish. They each wish for the gifts of the different animals and plants of their desires. Slowly each sister starts to change into the object of their wish and they begin to grow claws, wings, fur roots, and flowers.
