" lr The 1990 state 2A cross country champs: (L to R) Coach Bill Kahn, Bryan Peterson, Matt Thomson, Mike James, Tav Streit, Thorn Felt, Robert Simmons, Greg Hanscom. continued from B1 junior Robert Simmons and sophomore Matt Thomson came through for the team. Simmons finished in 17:27, good for 10th place overall. "He ran a great race," Kahn said. "He did exactly ex-actly what he had to do." And Thomson ran his best race of the season, finishing in 24th place. His time of 17:50 was his fastest this year. "Kahn sort of pressured me into in-to it," he said. "And all the people from the school (cheering) helped me, too." Junior Bryan Peterson and senior Greg Hanscom also ran well for Park City. The Miners knew they had won even before the points were tabulated and the winning teams announced. an-nounced. "It was more exciting last year because we didn't know until they announced it," Streit said. But Felt said winning a second time was even more fun. This year's Miner team was faster than last year's state champions. And next year's team should be even better, with five of the top six members returning, and a top runner run-ner coming up from the middle school. So add another attraction to the rituals of fall. In the third week of October, expect the leaves to change and the birds to head South. And count on Bill Kahn swimming in the pond,-, while his runners cheer ..him' OCT ."rr '. ' ' "wv; ; . . ' ' .
