The best Park City players were chosen by coaches and peers to play on the All-star Minor League team. The .team practiced three hours daily at the Smith Field since July 3 in preparation for the July 9-12 tournament tour-nament in American Fork. Head coach Steven Holcomb said the tournament tour-nament was originally scheduled for July 23, until organizers rescheduled it to avoid conflict with Pioneer Day events. The move surprised Park City Ci-ty coaches who had arranged their schedules for a July 23 tourney. With some scrambling, though, and help from coaches Deacon Dave Walters (coach of the Champion Minor League team Expo), Ken Crosby (former pitcher for the Cubs), Dale Townsend (former college baseball player) and Gary Cole (local hero), the team was ready for tournament play. According to Coach Holcomb, the team is younger than other teams. With an upper age limit of 12 years, Holcomb's team ranges from 8-11, Softball divisions to start July 10 and 12 games mark the end of the first round for the Men's Tuesday Tues-day and Thursday Softball League. Teams will then be designated "Upper "Up-per Division" or "Lower Division" according to first round standings, with the eight Upper Division teams playing on Tuesday and eight Lower Division teams playing on Thursdays until Tournament play beginning Aug. 23. According to the July Softball Newsletter, the high school field is now available Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings for practice. The Alamo is giving two free pitchers of beer to the winning teams and one free pitcher to the losers. Staton finished in 28 hours 55 minutes, her "personal worst," she said, but still good enough to beat the 30 hour cutoff time for a trophy brass belt-buckle. Staton suffered severely blistered feet and was forced to walk the last 40 miles. Rich Perrier won the Vet class and Cyndi Schwandt won the Women's class. "Actually, it was horrible," said Schwandt. Weather that had canceled the climbing championships did not cancel the mountian bike races. Bikers rode in marble sized hail, thunder and lightning to the top of the Tram according to Schwandt.
