Ate m . .:crtyi.i Falling down was easy in the Snow Bowl; getting up wasn't. The Park City Rugby Club challenged The World in their annual an-nual Snow Bowl rugby match Feb. 25 at City Park. The World won. The match a casual free-for-all featuring members of the Park City Rugby Club, new players, players from Salt Lake City and unidentified hackers kicked off the 25th anniversary an-niversary season for the Muckers. Jeff Smith, usually a Park City player, scored three tries to lead The World. Other details on scoring plays were sketchy. The game was as messy as the slushy playing field. Players slipped and "face-planted." They fumbled the ball often; they threw (illegal) forward passes. They kicked grubbers grub-bers that went nowhere. In short, it was vintage Snow Bowl action. By the end of the game the players had trampled most of the snow on the playing field. "The snow was a little deep at first," Mucker Chad Herbst said. "But it got packed down it's about top-of-Sorel deep." Herbst said playing in the deep photos by Alex Well snow was "very tiring." Mucker Steve Creer agreed. "It's a hell of a workout; everyone realizes how out-of-shape they are," he said. Creer said the Snow Bowl helps convince some seasonal workers to stay in town to play rugby. "It's a good way to get those people out and get them in the game... there's a lot of rookies out there. " . Most of all, the Snow Bowl is for fun. "It's pure fun," Creer said. "It's not taken very seriously." y i 'I f I 4 V Selected Sportswear wo on Skiwear by Colmar 4(M off ' 'We fit the way you live' ' Park City Resort Center Ice Rink Level 649-7688 The match was lor fun, but there were still some hard hits.'
