Show Page A4 Thursday, December 14, 1989 Park Record Planning helps make holidays pleasant And the little Lord Jesus... It's that time of the year when festive gatherings are many and holiday spirits abound. Often there are office parties, family gatherings, gather-ings, and even community get-togethers. get-togethers. Most organized parties require some type of advance planning plann-ing to ensure the quests have a good time and to help the host avoid the hassles and headaches associated with last-minute emergencies. A smart host will anticipate who the guests will be and plan accordingly. If your gathering includes serving a meal, make sure your guests know in advance. A party without a meal should be planned at an appropriate time so that hurried guests have enough time to prepare and eat before coming to your place. Guests that show up with an empty stomach will most likely go home with a big headache. Even if you do not plan to serve a full meal always have plenty of food available as well as a variety of beverages. Since salty foods increase in-crease thirst, be sure to provide lots of non-salty, high protein foods such as cheese, assorted meats, roasted nuts, baked goods, or finger sandwiches. sand-wiches. These types of foods will stay in the stomach longer and will slow the rate at which the body absorbs ab-sorbs alcohol. Make available a variety of nonalcoholic non-alcoholic refreshments. This is yiur chance to have fun and be creative without spending a lot of money. Serve your drinks out of an odd or unique container or throw in some culinary decorations such as citrus slices, fruit shavings, or gourmet spices. Provide drinking cups, glasses and plates of a moderate size to encourage your guests not to overeat or drink, but to return to the buffet for a variety of food and beverages. Appoint a bartender for the evening even-ing or someone to ensure service is in moderation. The bartender should be aware of who is the designated driver of any gruop. As a result, the guests will feel pampered and you can wind down the party whenever you're ready by putting away the alcohol and serving only the nonalcoholic non-alcoholic beverages. Remember, you are responsible for making sure your guests have a good time. It's also your responsibility respon-sibility to see to it that they get home safely after the party is over. By carefully planning your party ahead of time you will minimize your own headaches and more importantly prevent your friends from having one too.
