It was great to be there. "There" was Tincup, Colorado, Col-orado, an old and dusty mining town. Uncle Bruce, a roly-poly Santa Claus type, broke the murmur of mumbled chatter. "It's a perfect night to go to the graveyard," he suggested. For we kids who were becoming a bit restless, that did it. In a few chaotic moments filled with "Where's my coat" and all of us, except Aunt Kim and Uncle Steve were in the car, on our way to the graveyard. The Tincup graveyard is small. It's mostly beaver pond and forest. The sparse, musty, faded graves are spread throughout the Horyna favors new school building Park City Education Association President Pat Horyna urged citizens to vote for the school leeway and bond issue proposals that go to the voters, Nov. 7. "More and more people are moving mov-ing to Park City with their children, and we need more classrooms and teachers for them," she said. Horyna and the Park City Education Educa-tion Association supports the leeway and bond measures. BOND PROPOSITION Bond monies are used for the construction and maintenance of facilities. Park City is the fastest growing grow-ing school district in Utah. During the past year alone, the school population increased increas-ed 12 percent. The school district needs $6.5 million to accommodate the growth. Bond propositions do not in- LEEWAY PROPOSITION Voted leeway monies are used for operating schools. As schools grow more money is needed to deliver existing education services to each student. Passing the leeway maintains educational quality quali-ty without expanding or contracting con-tracting services. The new voted leeway (five mills) increases taxes by $60 per year on a home with a market value of $100,000. Voted leeway monies will provide funds to maintain smaller class sizes; strengthen curriculum and educational services (i.e. vocational education, arts, foreign language, counseling Dear Friends, This campaign has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. You have opened your doors, your hearts and your minds to let me share your thoughts and concerns. Thank you. Let's continue to talk. It has long been my view that people on the city council should be available, on a regular basis, to discuss your Issues with you in an Informal manner. Therefore, you will find me at Peck-A-Boo's at the resort every Thursday morning of the ski season at 8 am. Please join me for breakfast A special thanks to my many friends who actively supported me. We: Aunt Susie, Uncle Bruce, Cousin Brian, my mother, my sister Hadley and I, stepped carefully out of the car onto the damp, muddy ground. It was a pretty night. The full moon shone down upon us. But there was a chill in the wind that made my spine shiver, up and down. As we entered the woods, a twig crackled and broke. Aunt Susie jumped. Brian, Hadley and I giggled. giggl-ed. We weren't scared, oh no, not us. As we started into a dark, misty thicket I heard a loud "THUD!" I faked a lone giggle. When I noticed that the grown-ups weren't even smiling, I didn't giggle anymore. "Ahhrooo!" A frightening howl filled the night air. I lunged for my mom's sweaty hand, and we all "Park City's children deserve the high quality schools, the high quality of life and the high quality of teachers that go with living here," she said. She said passage of both the bond and leeway measures are needed to prevent critical overcrowding at all three Park City schools, sharp class size increases, and jeopardizing educational programs. If both measures pass, they will crease taxes. Basically, it will lower interest rates on the present debt and by restructuring the present debt with a lengthened payment, pay-ment, the annual bill stays essentially the same. Bond money will be spent to build a new elementary school (kindergarten through fifth grades) and add classroom space and locker services and programs for accelerated ac-celerated learning); maintain main-tain and attract an outstanding outstan-ding staff. To me, it felt like entering a place I would never leave. "Aarrhiee!" A shrill scream pierced the silence, like a red harsh steak across a death white paper. I shrieked and turned to run, but Aunt Susie who is usually slightly slower than the rest of us, was off like an escaped convict, being chased chas-ed by the police, dragging Uncle Bruce behind her. Everyone else was running for their lives too. I chased after them. "BANG! Auugg!" A tree branch dropped dead in front of Brian and me. We jumped back in a blur of startled terror, then raced ahead. I was running, running, trying to get away. Though there were other sounds, all I could hear was the pounding of my heart, sounding like a lead mallet being beaten against a hollow wall. As I tore to the car I heard a splash, followed by a yelp. Aunt Susie had fallen into the half -frozen stream! We pulled out shivering Susie. Bruce gave her his coat, and we warily groped our way back to the car. When we arrived at the cabin, Steve and Kim had their slippers on and were reading, drinking espresso. To this day I still suspect my clever Aunt Kim and Uncle Steve for the graveyard scare; though I don't know how they could have gotten to the graveyard on foot and back before us (since we had the only car), and manage to have hot coffee made.
