Show Page B2 Thursday, September 15, 1988 Park Record FOOTBALL from B1 theLehi22. On second down, Mathews hit Randy Poison for a 17 yard pickup to the five. Rino crashed through the five yards for the first score. Brian Worley added the point after to make it 7-0 very early on. Park City had another shot very quickly, as Lehi fumbled the kickoff, giving the ball up on the 20. But two penalties and a sack pushed the ball back and took the Miners out of scoring scor-ing position. Penalties were a sore spot all day for Park City. Miner Coach Bob Burns said it was his most glaring concern of the game. He said Park City players aren't controlling their emotions and are getting inexcusable inex-cusable penalties such as unsportsmanlike unsport-smanlike conduct. After the Park City punt, Lehi again could do little and had to punt themselves. Another bad snap gave Park City the ball at the 12. Brodie Pollard ran from his halfback spot on first for six yards, but a penalty put the ball back to the 12. When the Miners could go no further than the seven, Worley kicked a 24 yard field goal to give Park City a 10-0 lead with 3: 12 left in the first. Early in the second quarter, after a poor Lehi punt into the wind, Park City took over at the Pioneer 38. Rino bashed for nine on first, setting "the tone. Together, he and Spencer propelled the Miners into the end zone, with Rino going in from the four. Worley's conversion made it 17-0 with eight minutes left in the half and blowout on the mind. After a good goal line stand kept Lehi out of the end zone on the first series of the second half, Park City got the ball back and went on another RinoSpencer tear. It was almost an instant replay of the final drive of the first half, Rino again capped things with a five yard TD bashing. 24-0 PC. The only other part of the story of interest for the rest of the game were two additional Miner goal line stands. Twice more the Pioneers were inside the 10, but couldn't penetrate the stubborn Miner defense, remaining shutout throughout. Burns said it was a good win, being be-ing both a shutout and the first region game, but admitted Lehi isn't a very good team this year. He expects more of a battle from the Morgan Trojans, the Miner adversary this Friday at Morgan. Morgan has had a season of improvement im-provement already.
