Show Page C4 Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1987 Park Record "Nightmare High School" was good fun j , By (N(;f:oh(; Kccdi'd staff writer The high school couldn't have chosen a better script than "Nightmare High School" to reintroduce re-introduce its students to drama. It was presented Nov. 19 and 20 at the high school. The play was by no means serious, allowing the students to enjoy themselves instead of straining for perfection in this first attempt. The result was a delightful little thriller with a moral about clean ockers. Above: Mrs. Freitner staples an unruly student to the podium, much to the horror of other students. Right: Students offer their praise to high school drama instructor Christopher Maddux, Mad-dux, who directed the play at the high school. The relaxed play gave these students a chance to get on stage and be comfortable there, and it brought out the talent in at least a couple of students. The entire cast maintained the frivilously spooky plot well, but two characters stood out in particular. Julie Baltzly portrayed Mrs. Frietner, a caricatured old-maid witch of a teacher, with sadistic perfection. She grinned and cackled as she stapled a student's hand to the podium for back-talk. Matt McQuay was every bit as comfortable with his role as Colin, the class-clown. Again, the character is a caricature, this time of the student who jokes for acceptance. accep-tance. There's no doubt the high school drama program needs work. The students need to get into some set building, and the drama teacher, Christoper Maddux, needs to get together with the school board for money to buy props and costumes, or perhaps with Park City Performances Perfor-mances to arrange loans. Last weekend, however, was a great start. The most inspiring part of the performance was during the bows. The students eagerly ushered Maddux to the front of the stage to accept some of the applause. This is the most important part of a high school program. The students obviously ob-viously respect Maddux, so he should be able to do some good things at the high school. v . , ff-ii ifti mum i i -A iiinwhwn umn - Under the watchful eye of one of Deer Valley's talented chefs, a happy wine connoisseur tastes the fare of California cuisine prepared for the annual Les Amis I)u V'in (friends of wine) Beaujolais tasting.
