It was the only game Red's lost all season. April 10 - Park City resident Beau Brinkerhoff , 14, was chosen to represent repre-sent America on the Junior World Cup Freestyle Team. May 8 - Holly Flanders announced she was quiting the U.S. Ski Team to become director of skiing at the Park City Ski Area. John Dakin, who had spent five years in Park City as the information informa-tion director for the USST, announced announc-ed he was quiting to take a media relations job in Vail, Colo. May 15 - The high school golf season ended with the Miners making mak-ing incredible improvements. They started the year at the bottom of their region and ended the year with a fourth-place finish in the state tournament. Mark Verrone, Jeff Keye, Jacob Doilney and Robert Jones led Park City in the state tourney. May 22 - Fred Birch and Greg King claimed first place in their divisions at the high school state tennis ten-nis championships. The Miners finished second in the state behind Grants ville. The high school's soccer squad finished an up-and-down season with a loss to Waterford in the postseason post-season region tournament. The star of the team was Brazilian exchange student Manoel Da Silva. May 29 - Ski jumping greats from the past gathered at Ecker Hill to be a part of the hill's dedication ceremony. In the 1930s and 1940s Ecker Hill was one of the most famous of the ski jumping hills in the world. Among those gathered for the dedication . of the hill were Alf Engen, Olympian Dick Movitz, Otto Carpenter, Mel Fletcher, and the Spendlove brothers The Park City Muckers played their best rugby game of the season by beating arch-rival The Haggis Club, 8-4. June 5 - Johnny Miller, Bob Hope and former president Gerry Ford teamed up for a round of golf at The Jeremy Ranch. The trio played in the Great American Indian Shootout, which is held to raise money for native Americans throughout the United States, Canada ai.'l Mexico. June 12 - Summer sports activities were in full swing with soccer, golf, softball and rugby leading the way. The Muckers lost a thriller, 10-9, to the Portneuf Rugby Club.
