Lawson, who joined the board in 1977, said his lengthy service was the main reason for leaving. "That's long enough," he told the Park City Newspaper last week. "It's time to get somebody fresh." In his letter of resignation, submitted to City Council last March 24, Lawson said he was also going into business activities that would be time-consuming and raise conflicts of interests. in-terests. Lawson also recommended recommen-ded a replacement Rossi Hill resident Mary Wintzer. Lawson said he's going into in-to two different land development jobs. He will form Ekistics, a local consulting con-sulting firm, with Parkites Jerry Flannigan and Harald Scheckenberger. He will also work with the Salt Lake firm Kimball Properties. Kimball, Kim-ball, which is associated with the Bertagnole Investment Invest-ment Co., owns project areas in East Canyon, and northeast of Park City. Lawson said, however, that he is not involved in any Park City projects at this time. Ironically, Lawson's suggested replacement, Mary Wintzer, is now pleading a case before the board. (She has submitted a petition calling for the rezoning of a Rossi Hill area.) "When I wrote the letter to City Council, I wasn't aware of the petition," Lawson said. But he added her recent work shows she is an interested, active citizen. She should be able to speak out on planning as a citizen or public official, he said. But could Wintzer be rejected for the post due to opposition to her zoning proposal? "I suppose someone could take a vindictive vindic-tive attitude and see it from that perspective," Lawson said. "The more objective view is that she's a resident interested in planning and should be considered for that." Lawson said he was glad the city assembled a stable planning staff during his service, and has maintained a constant interest in future development. He had disappointments too. One was the approval of the Holiday Village Shopping Center. "I believe, and still do, that the scale of it was out of character for Park City. My preference would have been to see it scaled down to half, specifically the Alpha Beta." His letter said his resignation was effective on April 1, when his new work begins. But he said he was prepared to stay on until a replacement is found. Lawson recently stepped down as commission chairman. chair-man. Lawson said he is still vitally interested in Park City, and would be willing to serve on citizen committees in the future. jf ' ' " ' ' V ' 1 ' W - ! - k r - .. : - I Greg Lawson PARK CITY ROTARY MMtS Tuesday 12:15 The Pub Holiday Inn G A L L E R E S coxdiaity Lnuitzi. you to a fixzuizvu of uizi fjij tan Q.onns.on. and a is feci cjxoufi of Dxigina Etczingi.
