Beckman's paintings have often been described as being on the verge of surrealism. "The process of painting is still a thrill for me after all these years. Watching a painting emerge from the blank white board is more important for me than the finished piece, and experiencing experi-encing the recall of the painting's location is true escapism. In the real world one has very little control over the forces that impede on us, but here in my studio I am in command. Here I can create a world of peace, beauty, and structure no matter what is happening in the outside world." Photographer Zeny Cieslikowski Ciesli-kowski said, "Through my photography I can best express myself and learn from my surroundings. My subject matter is chosen in an unconscious manner and reflects my emotional and visual being. I see images, compositions, and juxtapositions juxtaposi-tions that exist for everyone to see and feel and from which to learn. I see the images and catch them; stop them .momentarily. This part of all of our lives can then be enjoyed and studied for a longer period of time."
