Community Christmas celebration The Park City Recreation Department, Santa Claus, and the people of Park City are celebrating Christmas on Saturday, Satur-day, Dec. 18 beginning at 5 p.m. It will be held in the Memorial Building and there will be entertainment and goodies for all. Come to the Memorial Building and see the famous Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt on Alpine t Mountaineering equipment, and enjoy a slide show narrated by White Pine guides Jim Miller and Al Bronston. (1216) Toys for Tots Due to citizen request, the Park City Fire Department, in conjunction with the Marine Corps Reserve, will have barrels set up inside the station on Park Avenue for donated Toys for Tots. Toys, if wrapped, should be marked for either boy or girl and also with the age of the child who should receive the toy. Big Brothers and Sisters need to be able to spend a few hours a week with their little brothers or sisters. Training and ongoing support and supervision super-vision are provided. Following the recent opening of the Park City Big BrotherBig Sister office, there have been numerous requests for Big Brothers and Sisters. Without adult volunteers, volun-teers, the program will not be able to meet the needs of any of the nearly 250 boys and girls of single parent families living in Summit and Wasatch counties who could benefit from a special friend. (tfn) Landfill hours During the winter months, the Park City landfill site will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The landfill site will be closed Dec. 24-26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1-2. There will be no change in the schedule for residential refuse collection. However, commercial refuse collection will not take place on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. (1223) Parley's Park Community Council There will be a meeting of the Parley's Park Community Council Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 9:30 a.m. Agenda items will include in-clude the ski program and curriculum coordinating. (29) Ski registration The Park City Police Department is currently registering skis at the Marsac Building Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Registration forms will be kept on file with the department in case of theft. ( tfn ) The Art of Christmas Present Christmas gifts created by many western artists fill the Kimball Art Center's Main and Little Galleries. The Art of Christmas Present exhibit will continue until Dec. 9. Then the exhibit will move to the Little Gallery. The exhibit includes paintings, prints, ceramics and stained glass. There is a wide variety of Christmas stockings and tree ornaments. Jewelry, scarves and quilts are onl samples of the crafts on display. There are gifts in all price ranges. Purchases may be taken from the show at time of sale. The Art of Christmas Present is sponsored by Bob and Barbara Wilson of Park City Furniture. Appointments are available for morning, afternoon after-noon and evening clinics. The services offered include: Physical exams, PAP tests, counseling and education, VD screening, pregnancy testing and contraceptive supplies. Costs for these services are very reasonable. TO Watercolor Park City artist Diane Balaban will teach morning and evening watercolor classes at the Kimball Art Center in January. The morning class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday, beginning Jan. 11, for six weeks. The evening class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday for six weeks beginning Jan. 13. Both classes are for beginning to intermediate students and will introduce transparent watercolor techniques. Diane Balaban has received training in California, Utah and New York. She is a member of the Utah Watercolor Society and Park City Artists Association. Tuition for each class is $45 for Kimball Art Center members mem-bers and $47 for nonmembers. (1223) DCE winter schedule The University of Utah's Division of Continuing Education has announced its schedule for winter classes at the Kimball Art Center. The schedule has been expanded slightly over fall quarter offerings. Winter quarter classes include iMath 101 (intermediate algebra); Math 105 (college algebra); English 325 (introduction (introduc-tion to Shakespeare); Psychology 101 (introduction to Psychology); English 101 (introduction to expository writing); English 245 (introduction to imaginative writing); Spanish 101 and 102 (first year Spanish); Recreation and Leisure 194 (volunteerism) ; and Modern Dance 391 ivolun-teerism ivolun-teerism in the fine arts ) . In addition to these courses, the Division of Continuing Education can offer courses to interested groups. During fall quarter, for example, a group of educators requested a course geared to the use of the computer in the classroom. This course is currently being held at the Treasure Mountain Middle Mid-dle School.
