Thank you, Democrats Editor: Dear Fellow Democrats, As chairperson for the Summit County Democratic Committee, I want to thank each and every one of you for having attended the Summit County Democratic Convention on May 19, 1982. Our turnout was much better than I expected. I am very enthusiastic about the real opportunities that the Democratic Party has during this election year. I'm sure that we will win back many of the elected offices in our county, state, and national government. As always, the critical link in the chain needed to bring about Democratic Democrat-ic victory is you. Your attention and your effort will guarantee the kind of future you wish for our country. We are fortunate this election year to have such qualified candidates running for office at all levels. I urge you to join me in supporting every one of them. I am looking forward to a very active political season for the next several months. If you have any great ideas which might make this the most productive election year yet for the Democrats, please call me at 649-9712, or Nan McPolin at 649-9417. Again, for your strong attendance and performance during the Summit County Democratic Convention BRAVO! Manv thanks. . . Matt Alvarez Summit County Democratic Party Chairperson Appraisal favors new homes Editor: Another Old Town ripoff . We need a reappraisal of the newer sections of town to bring them up to fair market value like the old section of Park City. Agreed that more money will be needed, but Old Town was reappraised in 1979 at the height of the book of sales of Old Town and the state appraisers were using those few sales as a base. Now very few of those old homes would sell for the county's fair market value. But the newer sections, Park Meadows, Thaynes Canyon, condos all Old Town, Deer Valley, etc., are appraised at near the value of a house in Old Town. It would be nice to own a home or condo which sold for $150,000 to $400,000, and still only pay an additional $100.00 with the proposed 3.5 mill levy increase this year. What it boils down to is that Old Town is close to fair market value and newer sections are aproximately one-half or less of the fair market value on the tax rolls. Park City could have the necessary moneys. By having the newer sections brought up to value and not increase mill levy. This would make it fair to all voters in Park City. Dale Nelson Beyond the call of duty Editor: We would like to thank the many volunteers from Park City and Summit Park who responded to a serious accident involving our daughter and her friend, early in the morning of May 16, 1982. Lynn and Dennis Green, who live nearby and were first on the scene of the accident. They quickly turned in the alarm and stayed at the scene until and after help arrived. Fireman Carl Winters and the Summit Park mini-pumper crew, who showed up in case of an automobile fire. Salt Lake fireman and paramedic Jim Hadden, who lives in Summit Park. Park City Police Officer Al Allen, who responded even though the accident was out of his jurisdiction, and whose kindness and concern had a calming effect on two very frightened teenagers. We would especially like to thank the Park City ambulance crew. Joanne Pillinger and Mike Karnas were the first E.M.T.s on the scene. Their care, concern and friendship went far beyond the normal call of duty. They transported both of the kids to Holy Cross Hospital, and stayed with our daughter and us through the long hours she was in the emergency room. They didn't go home until the early afternoon when she was admitted to intensive care. We didn't realize how important our volunteer fireman and E.M.T.s were to our community, until we personally needed their help. Hopefully we won't need them again, but it's very reassuring to know that no matter what time of the day or night if ParkCity's emergency people are needed, they will quickly respond. Again a grateful thanks. Alan and Reva Hazelrigg P.S. Casey also wishes to thank her many friends for their kindness and concern. She is out of the hospital and well on her way to recovery.
