Thanks to an early goal by Pat Carley, the Park City High Rollers had the momentum for most of Saturday's Division I soccer ,. game against Provo. Then Provo applied the brakes, scoring three times in the last 10 minutes to take a 3-1 win in a game played at Park City High School. "We just kinda plumb tuckered out," High Roller captain Garry Moore explained. ex-plained. "This has happened to us many times. We just lose it in the last few minutes of the game." The High Rollers gave the second-place visitors from Provo a run for their money until some defensive lapses late in the game cost them the victory. Pat Carley gave his team the lead early in the first half, taking a picture-perfect picture-perfect centering pass from right winger Ron Johnson and slamming it past the surprised Provo goalie. . Park City had several opportunities op-portunities to increase that lead, but couldn't quite pull it off. Both John Harvey and Mike Sullivan bounced shots off the goal post, and another High Roller hit the crossbar. "We had some chances," Moore agreed. "It was a good clean game, too." In contrast to some of their other recent outings, the High Rollers managed to stay on the good side of the referee, picking up only one. yellow card. Moore said the team was no longer in any danger of being suspended . from the league, since the flurry of yellow and red cards handed out by an over-zealous over-zealous official during the recent Berlin game had been expunged from the record. First-year High Roller Mark Cole filled in at goalie, and had a shutout until the roof fell in late in the game. The schedule now calls for Park City to meet the Clearfield Clear-field Job Corps teams at the high school Saturday at 2 p.m. The High Rollers won 6-2 6-2 the last time the teams 1 v-V ff -VI 4 y f '- . . -; ;.X ' V fS'i y : v r7 f. . .. "You never really know if they're legit or not," Moore said. "They might be real hot, or they could be mediocre." He pointed out that the turnover at the Job Corps unit always brings a few new faces to the team each season. Also on the schedule is a resumption of the April 18 game with Ogden. That game was suspended with Ogden leading 2-1, after a fight erupted following a penalty kick. The last 20 minutes of the game will be played May 19 at Rosewood Park In Salt Lake City. The good news is that Park City High School won the Region 11 golf championship last Friday, whipping Dug-way Dug-way by 25 strokes in a meet played at Provo's Cascade Fairways golf course. The bad news is that the newly-crowned region champs finished seventh out of seven teams competing for the 1A-2A championship held Monday at Wasatch Mountain State Park. Park City golf coach CW. "Moose" Smith said the team has a long way to go. "It was not impressive at all. If these kids want to get their act together next year, we could have something. But it's up to them." Jeff Scott was the only Miner to break 100 in either tournament. He shot a 99 at Cascade Fairways and a 96 at Wasatch Mountain State Park. Scott is the only junior on this year's team. The other eight golfers all are either freshmen or sophomores. Smith said that, with some work this summer, "we're going to have some golfers who are going to shoot consistently under 100." Top prize in the state tournament went to Richfield. Rich-field. The only 1A school in competition other than Park City was Monticello. 1700 PARK AVE. OPEN 8-8 DAILY 649-4949 PARK CITY a.
