' ' Vr ' ft Karen Huntoon Huntoon wins at Snowbird Park City's Karen Huntoon Hun-toon was the big winner Saturday among the 25 women entered in the Bud-weiser Bud-weiser World Professional Mogul Skiing Championships held on Snowbird's Silver Fox run. Huntoon outdueled Barbara Bar-bara Cordeau of Sun Valley in the dual-elimination finals to win first place and a cash prize of $400. Third place went to Snowbird's Jennifer Wilson. Renee Lee Smith of Sugarbush, Vermont, a former Park City resident, finished fifth. Meanwhile, Jerry Douglass Dou-glass of Snowbird was the top male contestant among the 95 entries, defeating Frank Beddor of Salt Lake City in the final round. Douglass earned $1,000 for his efforts, while second place was worth $600. Third place, and $450, went to Billy Campbell of Sun Valley. It was the first time in five years that Snowbird had hosted a major mogul skiing event. The competition was filmed by Warren Miller Productions. The mogul championships marked the final event on this year's American Pro Skiing tour. The final point standings find Jennifer Wilson in first place in the women's division, followed by Bobbie Chambers of Snow Basin. The men's overall championship went to Stan Kolby of Boise, Idaho. Kolby won $2,000 on the American Pro Tour this year. Finishing second was Brian Reynolds if Snowbird. Gray wins 10-K race in Salt Lake City The word's out: Bev Gray doesn't have to run on rubble to win. The 29-year-old local resident, resi-dent, who does most of her training on the rough terrain around Park City, showed Saturday that she can run on pavement, by winning the 10-kilometer 10-kilometer ZCMI VISA Women's race held at Sugar House Park. Gray was awarded a trophy, a silver-plated bowl and a $100 gift certificate for finishing first in a field of about 200 women. She covered the hilly course in 43 minutes, 45 seconds. "That's one of my slower 10-K (races)," she said, "but I'm told that's pretty good for Sugar House Park." A five-kilometer women's race also was held the same day. The win was the second for Gray in the past three weeks. She also finished first in the River Trail Run held April 11 in Provo Canyon. The news isn't all that good: the four-man Park City squad lost by a total of 20 strokes. But Coach C.W. "Moose" Smith saw reason for optimism. "It was good experience for these kids to go out and get some competition," he said. "For some of them, it was the first time they had played 18 (holes)." Park City's top golfer was Jeff Scott, who carded a 98. Bill Simmons was next with a 101. "In all fairness to Wa satch, they didn't bring their top eight," Smith said. "They have a couple of scratch golfers who - they didn't bring." Park City is scheduled to face Wasatch again today at the Midway course. The schedule also calls for Park City to meet Dugway May 8 at Cascade Fairways in Provo, then travel back to , Wasatch Mountain for the state championships May 11. "By that time, I hope to have a few of them shooting somewhat better," Smith said. Ralph Emery of the Park City Municipal Golf Course has been working with the Park City players to help improve their swings. - Won Lost Pet. 33 27 .550 33 27 .550 27.5 32.5 .458 26.5 33.5 .442 coreiBoardi Ladies Bowling Team Standings James F.Park Const.
