Show r Cowboy A hundred years ago it was the miners who were strutting strut-ting their stuff on the streets of Park City, if you could call them streets. The streets are now p.ived. the automobile has replaced the horse, and the Ola West is mostly television fiction. So what's this? Cowboys? Yep. Folks are lining up at the Rusty Nail to get thrown off that piece of modern-day fiendishness known as the mechanical bull. Ten-gallon Ten-gallon hats and shit-kickers are everywhere. And now, here comes a Park City watering hole dedicated to none other but the cowboy. In the past few weeks, the cavernous basement of the Dudler Building at the top of Main Street has been going through a radical change. One massive stone wall has been taken out completely. The east wall has been extended ex-tended into Swede Alley. A dirt floor is being replaced with carpet. A kitchen and a stage have been created. It's all part of the Cowboy Bar and Restaurant, scheduled to open next Tuesday to the tunes of Juice Newton and Silver Spur. Among the project's general partners are Kat and Mickey James, best known locally for their longstanding long-standing gig at the Claim-jumper. Claim-jumper. They could be seen among the workmen last Tuesday, directing the finishing touches on what has been a remarkable transforming trans-forming of a dusty old basement. base-ment. The bar itself, being built by local craftsman Chris Geer, is a huge horseshoe-shaped horseshoe-shaped (of course) structure overlooking the establishment establish-ment from the Main Street side. The Cowboy Bar and Restaurant, according to Mickey, will hold about 280 people with a potential for another 70 during "concert" performances. The stage, built close to what used to be the east wall of the building, is clearly the focal point of the place. About $12,000 is being invested in-vested in sound equipment and another $7,000 in lighting. There are dressing rooms adjacent to the back of the stage. There is even a special booth for celebrity guests in the best possible location next to the south wall. Speaking of the south wall . . . Long-range plans call for the capacity of the Cowboy Bar to be doubled by expanding expan-ding into what is now a vacant lot on the south side of the building. So the south wall eventually won't be there. Liberal amounts of barn wood are also being used, as well as railings made of pine salvaged from the fire which hit the Whitney Whit-ney Reservoir area last summer (charred just enough to be charming ) . And if you're really serious about this cowboy thing, well, "we're going to have a place out back to tie your horse up if you want to come on horseback," Mickey said. Other features cf the place include a video system and, of course, a large dance area. Plans call for live entertainment enter-tainment seven nights a week. Kat and Mickey and the Home Town Band will supplement the list of guest artists which, hopefully, will include people like John Prine and Jerry Jeff Walker. Mickey said arrangements are also being made to use the facility for dinner theatre productions, and it even has the potential for television productions similar to the "Austin City Limits" series on PBS ! Now all that's needed are a few cowboys. OPEN!
