Phil Thalman, bartender at the Utah Coal and Lumber, said he was awakened about 4 a.m. on Tuesday by noises coming from the basement of the Mexican restaurant. He looked out a back window and saw a brown Ford Bronco with three occupants. occu-pants. Grabbing a .22 caliber rifle, he went down into the basement where the beer and food supplies are stored. He apparently startled a man who started to run for a window he had already broken out with a case of tomatoes to gain entrance to the building. Thalman fired two shots into the air and the man gave himself up. Thalman then apprehended the three occupants of the Bronco, and herded the four up Main Street toward the police station at gunpoint. Just short of the police station, the four began speculating whether Commission Makes Hotel Recommendations Proponents of the Skyview project came before the Planning Commission last Wednesday night seeking conditional use approval for a 120-unit hotel at the north end of the proposed Depot Project. The developer of the project is Ladd Christensen, and as presented, the hotel would be comprised of three buildings that are planned to be finished in the fall of 1980. Discussion at the meeting centered on proposed parking park-ing for the hotel. It was noted that the new highway alignment align-ment would pass to the east of the Skyview hotel. To soften the visual impact of a parking lot, the commission recommended that the developers de-velopers erect a structure that would allow one level of underground parking, with the above-the-ground parked cars partially obscured by landscaping. The commission also recommended re-commended that the proponents propo-nents provide an acess to the new highway, since current plans call for one access to '-the -increasingly, congested Park Avenue. City Planner David Preece commented on Monday that plans for the entire Skyview and Depot projects include a trolley system through that area. He said the city is considering a joint venture with the Depot project to continue the trolley system to Mt. Air Mall or the Holiday Inn. He said railroad tracks currently exist out to Prospector Square. Developer Christensen commented, "We look at this as a total project with the Depot. It is much less viable by itself than with the connecting project. We feel a strong identification with Main Street and think the entire project will be an asset." The commission asked that the project proponents return re-turn with plans showing a parking structure, landscaping landscap-ing and an access to the new highway. Curb Service Local officials are urging Park City residents to cooperate co-operate in the city-wide cleanup campaign scheduled for May 14-18, the week before the ASTA convention. City Manager Wayne-Matthews Wayne-Matthews said city crews will circulate on each of those days, picking up trash left on the curb. Matthews also noted that residents will be allowed to use the city dump at no charge if they notify City Hall ahead of time. Thalman actually would shoot them, and took off running. The barkeep fired more shots into the air and shouted a warning for the men to stop. They ran back to the Bronco and fled the area. Thalman said he thought the men had "Heber accents" and could identify them. The Park City police are currently investigating the attempted burglary. In other police action: Geoffrey Nielson of Park City sustained $1,600 damage to his 1973 Ford on April 17 when he ran off the road at the intersection of Hillside Ave. and Main Street. Nielson said he was forced off the road by an oncoming car that did not stop. David Scodeller was robbed of $390 in cash from a suitcase in his Claimjumper condominium April 20. The robbers apparently broke a window and unlatched a door to the building. Burned matches were discovered in the shop, as well as the price tag from the missing jacket. The police said they intend to dust the tag for fingerprints. Two paintings were stolen from the lobby wall of the Holiday Inn the night of April 24. Police speculate the robber entered through the front door, took the paintings, paint-ings, and exited through another door. The two pieces of art were valued at $1,200. Bob LeClerq of Park City was robbed of $160 in cash from his home on Park Avenue April 19. LeClerq was skiing at the time of the robbery. The Timberhaus ski shop at the resort plaza was robbed of $600 worth of clothing and equipment in the early hours of April 23. According to the Park City police, a man staying at the condominiums at the resort was a witness to the crime. The man said there was a loud party going on at the Rusty Nail, and when he heard breaking glass and didn't see anything unusual, he asumed it was someone at the club. About a half hour later he heard the breaking of glass again, and this time he looked out to the plaza and saw a man walking away carrying an armful of clothing. cloth-ing. A few moments later another man appeared from out of the Timberhaus, also carrying clothing. The witness described both men as tall and slender, one with blond hair and one with dark hair.
