' At the beginning of a relationship there is rarely ever a question about whether it will be kept alive and strong. The newness of each other keeps both of you bubbling, often helped along by what you hold back and leave unsaid as you get comfortable com-fortable with each other. But once the novelty of the relationship wears away, most couples hit bland, flat stretches. They don't seem to have much to say to one another. Their routines wear thin. Inertia, fatigue and boredom set in. The dry periods become longer. The relationship settles into neutral gear and often stays there. This happens to many couples, but not to all. Their relationship stays alive. They're the ones who seem to look forward to their evenings, weekends and vacations together. They seldom seem to lack for things to do, things to talk about, things to laugh about, things to share. The chances are that these "lucky" couples aren't lucky at all, and no better matched than anybody else. They've just worked out ways for opening each other up, talking together, enjoying each other more. The important question is, "What can a couple do to meet themselves all over again?" The answer to this question is not easy because it depends on the needs of each individual couple. But, regardless of what the problems are, each couple needs to' mobilize the energies that brought them together in the first place. This can be accomplished in part if the couple rs,, able,. tft , maintain openy pm-, munications bv saying what Snow Closes Rec. Roads The Utah Department of Transportation closed the following summer recreation area roads for the winter season as of Monday, November 13: U-35, Wolfcreek Pass, beginning at the end of the pavement at Woodland to the North Fork of the Duchesne River. U-92, Alpine Loop in American Fork Canyon, from Mutual Dell to Aspen Grove. U-220, from its junction-with junction-with U-113 in Midway via Cascade Springs and Snake Creek to the Wasatch Mountain Moun-tain State Park. U-224, from Wasatch Mountain State Park via Pine Creek to its junction with Guardsmans Pass. Roads already closed for the winter season are : U-150, Mirror Lake Road from seven miles above Kamas to near the Wyoming state line. U-65, East Canyon. U-152, Guardsmans Pass from Brighton to the junction junc-tion with U-224 at Bonanza Flats. U-224. from Park Citv to the junction with Guardsmans Guards-mans Pass at Bonanza Flats. U-153, Beaver Canyon, from above Mt. Holly Ski Resort to the junction with US-89. All these roads are routinely closed each winter soon after the deer hunt when declining traffic volumes do not meet warrants for snow removal. Signs advising motorists of the closures are posted at each of the locations, and motorists are warned that the roads are not plowed or patrolled until the signs are removed in the spring. Motorists proceeding beyond the signs do so at their own risk. they want and don't want by sensitively sharing their feelings with each other. There is no one true road to fulfillment. It's important to test many alternative ways to discover, to say and to do what feels right to you so the closeness between you can be nourished and kept alive. Ford McBride, 1161 East 300 North. Nor-th. Provo, Utah 84601. Washington, D.C. U.S. Senator Jake Garn (R-Utah) has sent a letter to every state legislator in the country, coun-try, underscoring a state's right to reconsider its previous ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Garn, who led an unsuccessful unsuc-cessful fight in the Senate to attach a "rescission amendment" amend-ment" to the bill extending the ratification period for the ERA, believes that states are free to act. "Congress has no power to bind the 35 states which have ratified the ERA resolution prior to. this extension," Garn said in commenting on the letter. "The message to the states should be clear: If you no longer approve of the ERA then rescind your ratification. It is the only way you can signal to the ultimate tribunal that you no longer can be counted as part of the 'contem poraneous consensus ' needed for ratification." Congress' recent action did not establish any precedent on rescission, Garn stressed to the legislators. "The rejection of my rescission amendment was a neutral action, meaning only that the 95th Congress preferred not to address the question of rescission," Garn said. "States that have already ratified ERA may continue to do what they have in the past, either support their prior action or rescind," Garn stated. "States that have not yet ratified ERA can now consider the measure and either ratify or reject it."
