Despite the loss the Miners made a strong showing against the Wildcats, Wild-cats, last year's state champions, cham-pions, and gave credence to the occasionally heard cheer of "we're a different team this year," coming from Miner supporters. The Miners showed a strong defense from the kickoff, forcing the Wildcats to punt on their first possession. South Summit soon regained possession, advancing to Park City's 29-yard line. Faced with a fourth-and-one situation South Summit elected to run up the center but the Miner defense stopped the move cold. A Miner fumble gave the Wildcats the ball again, this time at the Miner 38. Using a series of pass plays Wildcat quarterback John Mondragon pushed his team to the 19 with a first down. Another four yards were gained by a run. The five yards added when an offsides off-sides penalty was called against Park City plus a one yard push put the Miner's opponents within 9 yards of their goal with a first down. Mondragon would have scored for South Summit with a quarterback rollout but for an illegal block being called on his team. Again South Summit tried with a quarterback rollout this time they advanced to the 10-yard line. Mondragon Mon-dragon passed over his center cen-ter to hit Wildcat end Glade Stembridge, who caught the ball at the 3-yard line and carried it over the end zone to give South Summit its first score. The point-after succeeded, suc-ceeded, giving South Summit . a 7-0 lead. " Miner Glen Wright took South Summit's kick to the Park City 39, but the quarter ended before the Miners could advance any further. Park City opened the second quarter with a punt, then the team held the Wildcats at bay until they had to punt back. South Summit had possession of the ball after a Miner fumble on Park City's 28. Again the Wildcats tried a quarterback rollout, which produced another goal for them. With a successful conversion on the point after the Wildcats were leading 14-0. Five minutes later the Miner defense was again fighting South Summit who was hard by their goal on the Miner 14 on the third down. A pass to the receiver was dropped in the end zone. Park City's Brian Yates deflected the second Wildcat pass attempt, giving his team possession of the ball. Give and take play left the ball with South Summit at the Miner's 16 by (he end of the half. Eight minutes through the second half Park City scored its first goal when Mickey Henrion intercepted a Wildcat Wild-cat pass and ran for 35 yards for a touchdown. Park City failed to get the point after so the team had 6 points to South Summit's 14. The Miners had the ball at South Summit's 32 when the last quarter started. A run by Jerry Johnson gave Park City four more yards. Park City's Jeff Murnin brings a Wildcat to his knees. As Les Gurski went out for a pass on the third down he was knocked to the ground. Coach Bob Burns marched onto the field in protest when no interference foul was called. The Miners got revenge re-venge in the next down when Norm Sagona drilled a pass to Gurski in the left corner of the end zone for the second Miner goal. Park City attempted a two-point conversion but failed, fail-ed, the score stood with the Miners trailing by two points at 14-12. Park City had possession at South Summit's 28 with less than nine minutes left in the game when a pass was intercepted by Wildcat Mike Thomas, who ran all the way for a touchdown. The conversion pass connected con-nected but was fumbled before the South Summit end reached the end zone. Eight minutes were left in the game and the visiting team was leading 20-12. The only bad hike for the Miner's this season gave the Wildcats another two points. Jerry Johnson was going to punt from the Miner 14 when the snap sailed over his head. Johnson was quick enough to cover the ball but South Summit had gained a safety for a 22-12 score. The Miners kicked off from their 20 after the safety. Mondragon caught the ball for the Wildcats. Mondragon charged up center for 15 yards, bolted to the left to evade the Miner defense, then ran along the left sideline for a touchdown. The conversion failed and the score was 28-12. Park City took possession but was not able to move the ball by the game's end. Park City will next play Dugway at the opponent's field at 7:30 Friday night. : : : : : MM ' ' 51 SAVE TRIPS ELECTRONIC CORDS PHONO NEEDLES t PHOTO BATTERIES PROJECTION LAMPS DARKROOM SUPPLIES CB.
