Show THEp Wednesday, May 31, 1978 Page 13 While Woody Allen has finally gotten just recognition rec-ognition from the film establishment for his superb Annie Hall, most of his fans feel that he should have gotten an Oscar for at least one of his "previous films. Play It Again Sam, which will be shown this Friday at the Kimball Art Center, is often mentioned as a neglected example of Allen's comic genius. Allen's ability to turn common everyday scenes into hilarious situations has delighted audiences, while his knack with words provides double entendres and puns that often are not noticed until the second or third screening. Play It Again Sam was based on a play written by Allen, then adapted for the screen. The film was not directed by Woody which accounts to some extent, for Alien's finest acting portrayal until Annie Hall. While Woody's fans might miss the incredible tangents that appear in his other flicks, Play It Again Sam has an uninterrupted and simple rhythm that aids the complicated humor of the film. . The film deals with a neurotic film critic who is trying to rejoin society after his wife leaves him. He has immersed himself in the cinema for so long that Humphrey Bogart appears to give him advice. His best friends a compulsively success oriented husband and his neurotic, neglected wife try to help Woody, but only succeed in complicating matters. Play It Again Sam not only stars Woody Allen, but it also offers the debut of Diane Keaton, one of America's foremost comediennes. Few people would argue that Woody Allen has been at the forefront of American film comedy (and satire) for nearly a decade. His films lose little impact as years go by, and they will, no doubt, earn the status of film classics. Should you doubt these bold statements, watch Play It Again Sam. It is convincing evidence of Allen's talent. The film will be screened at 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 2 in the Kimball Art Center Gallery. Summit County spent Memorial Day weekend living up to its "vacationland" reputation under blue skies. The reservoirs were busy with campers, boaters and a few brave waterskiers. The rangers were busy, too, and they reported a remarkably safe holiday weekend. There was that gruesome call from Echo Lake reporting the discovery of a "badly decomposed body" but much to Ranger Bill Jensen's relief the "body" turned out to be an elaborately dressed dummy. A posse has been formed to locate the prankster. There was one boating fatality at East Canyon Reservoir. Oakley friends and neighbors took time off from branding and planting to host a rodeo. Spectators cheered the contestants on through Monday evening with occasional breaks at the Oakley Polar King.
