He pointed out that most of the town's business district was burned to the ground in the fire of 1898 and many of the present structures struc-tures were built after that time. He described most of the 64 buildings included in the district as Victorian one or two-story frame buildings with shed-style roofs and false fronts. Characteristic of the buildings are indented entrances flanked by display windows and the use of tran- tags. Mayor Green said all requests will be considered by the finance committee and that representatives from each organization will be allowed to plead their case before the committee. The brick buildings that followed in later years still reflect the Victorian flavor, with arches, ar-ches, columns, and decorative Queen Ann brickwork and transoms. The remodeling of buildings, Notarianni said, has been sympathetic to the original design of surrounding buildings. "The significance of the Park City commercial district lies in the areas of commerce, politics, government, govern-ment, social, transportation, transpor-tation, labor and mining, as well as signifying the contributions con-tributions made by prominent and well-known members of the community," com-munity," Notarianni wrote. "In general, the commercial district, which functioned and continues to function as such, can still act as a catalyst for recollections of the past, primarily because many of its business blocks and public buildings still exist, thus forming a link between past and present."
