Located approximately ap-proximately 115 miles south of Salt Lake City, the sand-play sand-play and off-road vehicle area received an estimated 60,000 visitors last Easter weekend, according to Paul L. Howard. BLM Utah state director. The Intermountain Oft Road Racing Association, which has sponsored dune buggy races at Little Sahara's Sand Mountain during Easter weekend each year, will not have any races there this year. Also, the Juab County Sheriffs Department has announced plans for increased law enforcement en-forcement to cut down on accidents ac-cidents and make the area safer and more enjoyable for family outings. The west desert is also popular around BLM's Simpson Simp-son Springs Campground which has camping units and drinking water. The campground cam-pground is 25 miles west of Vernon on a graveled road in Tooele County. While in the area, people can visit portions por-tions of the historical Pony Express Trail. Roads are wet and muddy in the Henry Mountains and campgrounds there will be closed. Campgrounds in BLM's Canyon Rims Complex 22 miles north of Monticello will be open, but no water will be available so take your own. Conditions look good in the southwest part of the state with Calf Creek campground camp-ground east of Escalante, and Red Cliffs Campground north of St. George, both open with water available. A $2 per day Teeis. charged a these campffntuTftis. I Ponderosa Grove Camp- ground west of Kanab will be open, but no water will be available. Indications are that hikers will be very active with heavy use of Paria Canyon expected. A permit is required which can be obtained ob-tained at no cost lrom the Kanab BLM off ice. Hiking conditions are good in Grand Gulch, but remember remem-ber to obtain a free permit from the rangers at the Kane Gulch station or the BLM office of-fice in Monticello before entering en-tering the canyon. Water is available in Paria Canyon and Grand Gulch but should be treated before drinking. Due to runoff, high and very cold water in the Escalante River has been making hiking conditions there difficult and extremely uncomfortable. Due to the wet conditions across the state, Mr. Howard asked people to remain on established roads to keep from getting stuck and damaging their vehicles as well as the environment . Mr. Howard also reminded people that no matter what type of outing is planned, they should be prepared for adverse weather and very cool nights this time of year. Music Room Robbed A case of breaking and entering was reported over the weekend at Park City High School. Stolen from the music room were a turntable, turn-table, speakers and a cassette cass-ette tape player with a total value of $1,075. Police speculate that the thief entered through a hole inlhe roof currently, under . I repair ' ancT 4 investigations " have revealed several clues.
