't- ounty Much of the attention in the county this week was focused on basketball as local teams fared well in regional and state playoff tournaments. The South Summit Wildcats overcame the team from Dug way High to win the Region 11 basketball championship. Advancing to the state 1-A final competition as the favorites to take it all, the Wildcats were finally knocked off by a surprisingly tough team from North Sevier High School. In a game closer than the final score indicated, in-dicated, the Wildcats team was defeated 58-46. Our South Summit correspondent, Hoyt Atkinson, Atkin-son, reported that the high scorers in the game were Ray Peterson and Glade Stembridge. Meanwhile, in the state 1-A basketball tournament tour-nament for girl's high school teams, the South Summit team finished third in the area finals. In the playoff game, played at Richfield, the South Summit girls downed the team from North Summit to claim third place. The North Summit team finished fifth. Following the state high school playoffs, the LDS youth basketball leagues begin their championship cham-pionship tournaments. Tournament games will be played in community gyms all over the county, coun-ty, beginning this week. The winners will advance advan-ce to regional playoffs the following week. The continuing series of storms from the northwest north-west dropped more snow on the area this week, but because of the warm temperatures the only-accumulations only-accumulations were at the very high altitudes. In fact, bare patches of brown earth are beginning to show through on sun warmed fields all over the county. Near Kamas, some of the farmers are beginning to work their fields. Hundreds of red-winged red-winged blackbirds made an early arrival in Marion this week, apparently confident that we will have a milder than normal spring. The wet snow resulted in many small avalanches avalan-ches in addition to the big one in Provo Canyon and kept most cross-country skiers out of the Uintas. The snowmobilers have, however, discovered Brown's Pass. Last weekend the thousands of open acres between Park City and Peoa became the snowmobiler's playground as dozens of them were seen making slalom courses through the few sagebrush tops still poking through the snow. If you have information about news or other happenings in Summit County, outside of Park City, we would like to hear from you. Call either 877-5244 or 783-4736. for those of you who called in this week with basketball information, thanks again.
