Bldg. by Quicksilver At the turn of the new year (being a pantheist, I just noticed) it seems apropos to give a short rundown of celluloid spectaculars, and assorted other tidbits. Frankly, it was a pretty good year for the cinema in Utah. Between the better-than-average commercial fare visiting town and the establishment of several cinema art groups, the filmlover had a rich variety of choice flicks to view. First (mainly because it is foremost in my Cro-Magnon Cro-Magnon mind), the Park City Film Coalition has been formed to try to bring serious film back to Park City. Indeed, this very Thursday there will be a showing of the classic, The Man in the Iron Mask, plus a Buster Keaton-Fatty Arbuckle short, The Garage. Since the Club Saloon will once i again be the host, it is necessary to ask that no i one under 21 attend the showing. The flicks will start at 8 p.m. but one might want to get there early, as the Club is small. In the future, the PCFC plans films, seminars, and even small productions around the Park City area, and of course, this column will keep you informed in-formed as it happens ! Second (my mind is now groping for a second thing to say. Check the first paragraph, ah yes ! ) , the Blue Mouse opened this past year providing Utah with its first and only art cinema showplace. The theater has been more than successful suc-cessful with its selections including the typical heavies Bergman, Bertolucci, Fellini, Truf-fant, Truf-fant, and a variety of lesser known but just as important directors. The Blue Mouse has filled a vacuum in the Salt Lake theater directory. Finally (thank heavens, the brain's almost completely turned to mush), there was better than average commercial film fare released this year. Of course, Star Wars (more on that later) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind are the headliners this year, but films like Welcome to L.A., Julia, and Annie Hall were delightfully and readily available to the public. Cousanne Cousinne and Crice were among the fine foreign films shown in some of the com-merical com-merical theaters. Right around Academy Award time, this critic promises to provide his own best and worst list of 1977. You may then paste it next to your T.V., and boo or hiss when the list gets shot down in flames, and cheer when those bozos get it right.
