Show 5 1 Wednesday, Decembers, 1976 Page9 t J i' by Quicksilver Perhaps one of film criticism's longest running debates is what constitutes the acceptable level of violence in a film. Generally, it is felt that reality violence (' blood and guts) in a film should not be considered distasteful since violent acts are common occurances, and are a valid topic for film makers to discuss. Blood does flow when people are shot, and hot portraying the consequences of a violent act realisticly is a disservice to the film going public. On the other hand, violence for the salte of mere ' titillation could probably be considered the lowest form of pornography. What is Two Minute Warning? The film deals with a pathological killer who goes berserk at a championship football game. It's a valid topic. Gunmen have fired on innocent crowds often enough to warrant examination of the phenomenon. But Two Minute Warning is clearly going for the bucks, and to hell with realism. There is no other reason for this movie to exist other than a gory final scene. Consider some flaws in this travesty of a film. A tough police captain can browbeat an entire (trailer full of TV directors and technicians (a high powered group not easily intimidated) but the head astodian of the stadium can't be bullied. The sniper ater knocks the same janitor off a 60-foot ladder, . tut jthe captain does not consider that (or the fact tbat he has- a high powered semi-automatic rifle fwith a 30-shot clip) enough of a provocation to let a Isharp shooter try to bring him down. pSpeaking of sharpshooters, it seems incredible that fbbtti of the SWAT gunmen (who can put out an eye fat 200 yards) could be killed with one shot apiece Iwhile they themselves can't get off a round. . : KFinally, a third SWAT gunman finds the sniper in his sights and boom-splat! But snipers are tough Athis year, and SWAT sharpshooters get a ten minute offee break continues. after, each shot, so the carnage Itwo Minute Warning is a movie fabricated to sell gore. It is a sad commentary on America that this film could be billed as entertainment. In the end, the tudience must listen to the SWAT leaders' verbearing "social commentary" and still doesn't find out who won the championship game. The film js definetely a cheap shot. leeeee i n J . on : sotp Fifteen words, commonly used after the word ffire" are hidden in this block of letters. The double-barrel-' ed concert featured the fine talents of the old bluesmast-ers, bluesmast-ers, John Lee Hooker and the Southern-styled "shake and bake" music of the Charlie Daniels Band. s Veteran blues man John Lee Hooker opened the show, using his Gibson hollow-body, hollow-body, with the bluesy tune, , John Lee Hooker "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.' From that point it was obvious that the rest of the evening was going to be a pretty nice party. And a party it was; halfway through his set John Lee expressed the feeling of being lonely playing by himself. He invited "some of the boys" to come out and boogieHooker was promptly joined onstage by a drummer, pianist and bass player from the Charlie Daniels Band. If John Lee Hooker were to go on tour with those three musicians, they would soon be known as "Boogie Incorporated". They blended together one of the finest boogie-blues jams the Terrace Ballroom has experienced in many moons. After a well-deserved encore set by John Lee Hooker, it was "Howdy! We're the Charlie Daniels Band from Mt, Juliep Tennessee." It was obvious that most of the people came to see the Charlie Daniels Band play until they blew the doors off the Terrace Ballroom's walls. And they almost succeded in doing just that. Mountain Realty found me a place to hibernate for the winter. We have homes & condos for Immediate occupancy. M OUNTAIN REALTY PO.
