' - III I 1 'B v; t5M&444ri M ark angss The Park City Master Plan Committee Thursday night decided to keep the proposed zoning map intact with the exception of some property previously zoned commercial on Park Avenue. The committee, met to consider protests and recommendations made at the June 28 public hearing on the proposed revised zoning ordinance. Change : The only zoning change proposed by the committee dealt with property along Park Avenue which had been slated as commercial but which is now proposed as residential. The committee's decision marks a return to its original intention of eliminating undeveloped . commercial property from lower Park Avenue. Having previously designated the land as residential, the master plan committee was confronted by petition-carrying property owners requesting that land currently zoned commercial be allowed to remain as such. The committee agreed to do so until Thursday night's reversal. - . ' Former city councilwoman Mary Lehmer, supported by Adele Wolfberg and Kathy Soares argued against the spot commercial zoning at the June 28 hearing. Under the committee's latest decision, existing commercial enterprises will be permitted as nonconforming non-conforming uses and the undeveloped commercial property would become medium density residential. As a non conforming use, the type of business ' now oc cupying Park Avenue commercial property could not be changed to a different commercial use in the future. The committee's reversal will most likely be greeted by strong protests' from Park Avenue commercial property owners at the next public com. on page 3 UTAH SYMPHONY COMING TO PARK CITY Art Festival Director Joan Seman announced this week that the Utah Symphony will perfqrm at the Resort Center on Sunday, August 15. Seman said the concert, which will be offered . in conjunction with this year's Art Festival, will represent a "new cultural dimension" for Summit and Wasatch counties. She noted that an outdoor Utah Symphony performance "of this scope and nature" is unprecedented locally. The "pops" concert is expected to be approximately an hour and 45 minutes in' duration and will commence at 5 p.m. on the Resort patio. The concept of the event, according to Seman, is to offer a significant culutral experience to to residents of Summit and Wasatch counties as well as to regular symphony goers from Salt Lake City. "It will provide 10,000 residents with an unusual opportunity," she said, and added, , "The symphony is excited about the idea." The project . is being, assisted by a grant provided jointly by the Utah State Division of Fine Arts arid the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D C. When the Utah Symphonj presents its concert in Park City, Associate Conductor Ardean Watts, who shares the 170-concert workload with Musical Director and Conductor Con-ductor Maurice Abravanel, will be conducting. Abravanel credits Mr. Watts with being "nothing short of spectacular."
