H ii e Vikings sweep T- By TODD VEENKER Pleasant Grove's boys basketball basket-ball team pulled off the sweep of the Timpvisw Thunderbirds by defeating the T-Birds 62 - 53 last Wednesday night. The victory pulled the Vikings once again into a tie for first place with the Provo Bulldogs after the Bulldogs were upset by Springville also on Wednesday night. Timpview jumped on the Vikings early as they managed a 10 5 lead before Pleasant Grove waa able to find their touch and eventually take a one point lead for a few minutes in the first quarter. quar-ter. Chad Bahr had the hot hand for the Vikings aa he scored seven of Pleasant Grove's first ten points. Bahr would finish the night with one of his better games of the season by scoring a Warn high seventeen points. The Thunderbirds fought off the Viking run that gave Pleasant Grove a 13 12 lead with two minutes min-utes remaining in the quarter. After the Vikings regained the lead Timpview went on a 5 - 2 run and ended the quarter with a three point lead at 18 - 13. But that was the last bit of good news for Timpview as the Vikings would eventually regain the lead in the second quarter and never give it up again. Pleasant Grove quickly put together two baskets that gave the Vikings the lead for good. Timpview on the other hand couldn't hit anything as they went the first five minutes of the second quarter without any points. Luckily for the T-Birds, Pleasant Grove wasn't shooting lights either. Despite five minutes without with-out a basket, . Timpview only trailed by five points. . In the final three minutes of the first half, Timpview mounted a small rally and waa able to pull ; within one point at the buzzer . alter stalling out the final 30 seconds sec-onds for the last shot. Pleasant Grove entered the locker room up one at 26 - 25 and hoping to find their shooting touch for the second .half . ' Again the T-Birds opened the quarter with turnovers and a poor shot selection. In the second quarter quar-ter it didn't hurt Timpview to have so many turnovers, but in the third quarter it cost them the game because Pleasant Grove had found their shots and they were beginning to foil. , The Vikings went on a 10 - 1 run to open the second half, keyed by Charlie forge thunder jam that brought the P.O. crowd to it's feet. Iorg has developed a reputation of ' impressive dunks that would hav won nun a spot in the NBAs sla dunk contest if he were at thalj . level. Ths T-Birdo seemed to have run out of gas after not being able to find their shots coupled cou-pled with the fact that Timpview . may have used up all they had over the last few weeks in dose disappointing losses. - Pleasant Grove actually got outscored in the fourth quarter by one point, but it didn't matter as the lead was to big for Timpview to overcome. Zach Starr continued his consistent play inside as he managed 11 points to help Bahr with the Vikinirs inside attack. Qmrnm, ' ,v. ' iw. mm 3 II7V70RIJ.. JO llTMMIl ...
