L ... Stanley Walker Completes Stanley H. Walker, Provo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold S. Walker, has just completed 13 weeks of intensive stock broker training and has been graduated gradu-ated from the Securities Sales Training School of J. A. Hogle & Co. in Salt Lake City. The school included special courses in corporate finance, money and banking and security analysis. analy-sis. . ' Treats, surprises and Christmas cheer were enjoyed by all who attended. Students Go Through Pioneer Log Cabin During Last Week Mr. and Mrs. Harold S. Walk-. Walk-. er conducted 7 classes from our local schools through the Pioneer Pio-neer Log Cabin and museum one day last week. These classes are studying. Utah history and saw first hand many of the things the Pioneers used to protect themselves with and to make a living out Of this, their adopted state and country. Teachers of the classes were Leslie Liechty, Lewis Griffin, Joan McAllister and Judy May. The" children were told of the early history of Pleasant Grove and some of the hardships and tribulations the pioneers experienced. exper-ienced. Fires were started early in both buildings by Mr. Walker and the children were comfortable comfor-table on a stormy winters day. Modemettes Meet Last Week with Mrs, Edna Bott "The Modemettes held their meeting at the home of Edna Bott last week. A delicious ham dinner was served on card tables centered with a Christmas Christ-mas candle. Visit from Colorado Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harper were hosts to family members last weekend. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Smith , and three children from Pueblo, Colorado. Mrs. Stewart is a sister sis-ter of Mrs. Harpers. On the way here the Smiths visited family members in Mon-itrose Mon-itrose Colorado. When leaving they will tour Los AngelSS, and then drive to San Diego, where they will visit Mrs. Smith's twin brother and family,-Mr r and Mrs. Pete Salerno., They will spend the holidays there. Nelson, 45, were held Saturday, Sat-urday, Dec. 14 at 12 noon in the First-Fifth Ward chapel, under the direction of Wilford Hoglund, of the First Ward bishopric. Mr. Nelson died from a heart attack near Fairfield, Utah County, after his truck stalled as he was looking for a Christmas Christ-mas tree. t He had gone with a companion, compan-ion, Gam Dunsdon, also of Pleasant Grove, to the area south of Fairfield on Tuesday, . Dec. 10, when their car broke down. They spent the night around a camp fire and started for help Wednesday. Mr. Dunsdon said that Mr. Nelson complained of not feeling feel-ing well, slumped over and collapsed col-lapsed a few minutes later. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lehi Hospital. Speakers who paid tribute to the life of the deceased were Elvin Thome and Lewis J. Harmer, neighbors. Mr. Hoglund Hog-lund spoke closing words of sympathy and hope. Brent Peterson sang the vocal vo-cal solos, "In My Father's House" and "I Need Thee Every Ev-ery Hour," accompanied by Donna Johnson. Joanne Walker and Joanne Brady sang "Beyond "Be-yond the Sunset," accompanied by Pauline Olpin. Family prayer at the mortuary mor-tuary was led by Bishop Paul Blackhurst. E. Dee Olpin asked the invocation and Hyrum Bradley pronounced the benediction. bene-diction. The grave in the Lehi Cemetery was dedicated by James C. Hansen. Pallbearers were Garn Dunsdon, Duns-don, Carl Richins, John Rich-ins, Rich-ins, Wayne Nelson, Leland Nelson, Nel-son, Lee Crab, Russell Peterson Peter-son and Myron Jense. Flowers were cared for and luncheon arranged by the First Ward Relief Society, Keith E. Nelson was born March 8, 1918, in Pleasant Grove, a son of Raymond and Ann Hansen Nelson. He was educated in the local schools and was a carpenter by occupation. occu-pation. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Mary Richins, April 17, 1947. They were later divorced. He is survived by his former wife and one son and three daughters, Dennis, Kathy, Joyce and Marilyn, all of Pleasant Grove. Also surviving are his parents par-ents of Pleasant Grove, one brother and one sister, Howard Nelson, Provo and Mrs. Hyrum (Dorothy Ann) Bradley, Bountiful. Boun-tiful. An interesting history was read by Gertrude Richards of her great uncle, William S. Burton, who died in England, while there on a mission. Lacy Wliitc, lesson leader, gave the lesson on "Courageous Pioneers." She also discussed an epistle written by Brigham Young on Dec. 23, 1846 at Winter Win-ter Quarters. This letter was written to all the people of the world. She also told about the life of Jane Armitstead's grandmother, grand-mother, Sarah R. Ashley. Those present were Pearl Adams, Ad-ams, Gertrude Richards, Es-telle Es-telle Fenton, Janet Mills, Cora Bezzant, Jane Armitstead, Ellen El-len Hebertson, Pearl West, Cle-one Cle-one Kirk, Myrtle Boren, Ida West and Vivian Evans. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Walked and Lacy White. Ida West was welcomed back after serving on a mission. Elysium Club Hears Music Program at Monthly Meeting The Elysium Club held their monthly meeting last, week at the home of Maxine Allred, with Jeanne Walker acting as hostess. After a business meeting a program of music was presented present-ed by Irene and Terry Jenkins Evelyn and Robert Hilton, Bliss and Don Brimley, and Pat and Boyd Seeley. They were accompanied accom-panied by Karla Haynie. On the last number of the program, pro-gram, Glen Probst guitarist, joined them. Santa Claus Comes To 7th Ward Primary Santa Claus was an honored guest at the Primary Christmas Christ-mas party held last Monday in the Stake House for the children of the Seventh Ward. Teachers and officers helped him distribute treats to all the Primary children. A program was presented and everyone enjoyed the Christmas Christ-mas spirit. New Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Dean Powell have received word from Richland, Rich-land, Washington,, that their son Dean Jr. and his wife, Sandra San-dra have a new baby daughter daugh-ter She was born on Dec. 17. The Powell's have one other child, Michael, who is two years old. Dean is employed by General Gen-eral Electric Co. and has been living and working in Richland since last July. Grove Ward Holds MIA Christmas Party Grove 'Ward members enjoyed enjoy-ed their annual Christmas party par-ty Monday night at the Stake House during the regular hours of MIA.- Ward officers and teachers arranged the evening's entertainment, enter-tainment, Which included a stocking dance, refreshments and an exchange of gifts. The meet-, ings will start with a reception at the Ramada Friday, Jan. 17 in honor of Curtiss D. Lovill, immediate past president of the Lions International Mr. Lovill will be guest speaker. Saturday, Jan. 18, the convention con-vention reconvenes at the Ramada Ra-mada for luncheon and a conference con-ference reviewing the projects and aims of Lions. The big Midwinter Banquet is scheduled for Saturday evening ev-ening at the Terrace Ballroom at 7 p.m. with Curtis D. Lovill featured guest speaker. Additional Addi-tional talks will be given by Gov.George D. Clyde and Mayor May-or J. Bracken Lee. Also expected ex-pected to attend will be Utah's congressional delegation. Lions International Is the largest lar-gest civic club in the world, with approximately 680,000 members in 17,000 clubs. Utah is well represented in this number num-ber with more members per capita than any other state.
