B. Gibson .; Editor-Publisher Jock S. Pace Manager Karl Bonks News Editor Juvenile Troubles, Responsibility? A short paragraph ot the end. of last November's City Court and Police report, published in the Review two weeks ago, stated that 20 Juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Court during the month. Offenses ranged from vandalism to taking cars that did not belong to them. Statistics are not readily available; but this writer is of the considered oinion that 20 referrals are more than we had from Pleasant Grove in a year's time, 15 years ago. " Why the great upsurge of teenage troubles in recent years? Church attendance by young people in this area is at a record high. Public schools, through their counseling services, ore devoting more time, energy and attention to the problems of youth. PTA organizations are more active than they have ever been. What then, is the trouble? Of course population has increased in this area during recent re-cent years. But not that much. , When Informed of the 20 November referrals a stake church leader said that he never realized the extent of the local juvenile problem. How many busy and responsible men and women actually do? Perhaps the first step, along the long and arduous road toward to-ward the solution of Juvenile delinquency, is to accept the' fact that it exists in alarming proportions. Perhaps, too many people are "above" serious consideration consider-ation of the problem. They live in a world apart from such sordid social maladjustments. This attitude must change. After acceptance of the fact that the problem exists, the second step is universal responsibility to do something about it. Police officers and the courts can only strive to cure the "delniquency disease" after the malady has become visibly apparent. Prevention is the responsibility of society as a whole with diagnosis and treatment of the first symptoms taking place in the home. . What happens to our youth should be the serious concern of everyone. 83888S88888S88883388SSS88S838888SS888S88888SS28S8S88S88S8888S8S88S8888 WILL TEND CHILDREN in my home (daytime). 785-3463.
