Miss May Houtz was arrested last week and is now having a trial In Justice Booth's court at Provo on a very serious charge. It Is reported that May went to the home of Mrs. Zebina Alleman, and rinding that lady at home and practically helpless from sickness, gave her a sound beating beat-ing with the handle of a buggy whip. Mrs. Alleman succeeded in getting away front the girl, and escaped further injury. The lady was greatlv prostrated and quite severely injured by the assault. The affair Is said to have grown out of a neighborly discussion dis-cussion over the, trespasses of pigi aud poultry. We want your business. : ; : ; : : THOMAS COFFMAN HIS Tom Coflman, a well-known Springville Spring-ville boy met his death at Provo at an early hour Saturday morning under very distressing anil peculiar circumstances. Accounts of the affair differ somewhat. The following follow-ing story is taken from the Prom Democrat, and is probably fairly accurate: "At about 2 o'clock this morning a young man by the name of Thomas Coffman, a resident of Springville., died at the Commercial hotel, supposedly from acute alcoholism. Mr. Coffman came oyer to Provo yesterday forenoon and commenced drinking heavily- At one o'clock he was very much Intoxicated and went or was taken to Sharp's livery stable to get his horse and go home. When he reached the stable, however, it was plainly seen that ho could not go home. He tumbled about the barn and fell under the horses heels. Becoming Be-coming semi-conscious he was laied down in the barn and covered with blankets. He remained there until the middle of the afternoon when it was found that his body was almost as cold as Ice. It was at first thought he had been injured hy the horses while he was under their feet, but an examination discovered no bruises on his body. Dr. Ronison was ca. led to the case and the man was taken to the Commercial hotel to lie be cared fo' He remained in a semi-conscious condition until the time of his death.
