Conditions Very Gratifying in Lehi Factory District. THE TOTAL ACREAGE IS 7,558. Beets are Endaring the Drouth Very (load Shape. Condition is Ihie to Thorough Cultivation. iu The Lehi correspondent of the jMxeret Keening Sewn, writing under date of July 30th, gives the following detailed report of the condition of the sugar beet crop: 'The beet sugar crop throughout Salt Lake anil Utah counties as well as in the districts of Sanpete and Sevier, is looking remarkably well considering the dry season. Manager Cutler and Superintendent Austin returned late Saturday evening from a visit to the beet fields inthedis-tricts inthedis-tricts of Mapleton, Springville. Provo, Lake View, Pleasant Grove and American Fork, and the crop in these localities is far better than they expected ex-pected to find it they having seen a number of patches which will yield from 15 to 20 tons per acre, but of course the general yield per acre will average much less than this. Mr. Austin stated that the farmers are utilizing all the water thev can get access to on their beets and orchards, and generally speaking, thev will be able to raise a fair tonnage, much more than was anticipated twenty-days twenty-days ago. Many of the farmers are greatly surprised at the progress the beets are making this season, considering consid-ering the drouth, as in a great many instances, judging a Held of beets from the tops, the tonnage apparently would be very light, but, on investigation investiga-tion the beets are of a very good size for this time of the season. The farmers are doing their utmost to take care of the beet crop, and Mr. Austin attributes the present favorable favor-able condition of the crop to the excellent ex-cellent cultivation it has received, together with the cool nights we are having. On Mapleton bench, says Mr. Austin, there is one patch of beets that has not as yet been irrigated irri-gated and the beets are suffering hut very little, which condition is due to the thorough cultivation they have received. "The beet crop in Provo appears to be as good this season at this date as it ever h. bfn, particularly on the low lands. Ninety per cent-of the Springville fleets are looking well, and In Mapleton district, notwith- st a riil f rig The water Is verySJho"rr,"lTnr1 beets look 7ell. Lake View will also have a very fair crop as they are prettv well supplied with water from thp Provo river, and while Pleasant (Jrov i has not much water the out-lo out-lo ik for b-ets is not at, all discouraging. discourag-ing. The American Fork beets look excellent, especially when we take into consideration that this is practically prac-tically their first season in the business. busi-ness. "In Salt L ike county the beets are looking well, with the exception of a few acres in Lovendahl's, Iliverton and West Jordan, and after talking with the Utah Sugar company's agents at Spanish Fork and Payson and the company's representatives in Sanpete and Sevier counties, I find at this date 80 per cent of the entire beet crop is looking well, and the tonnage will far exceed the estiiuates of twenty or thirty days ago. The agent at Payson has just reported that the beet crop in that locality is looking remarkably well, a number of fields will yield 20 tons per acre, while they have a few acres on the higher lands that will be light unless we have some rain soon. "The Saratoga ranch, which was bought by the Utah Sugar company sonic time ago as a mother beet seed farm, is proving to be an admirable place Tor this business. The five acres of mothers on this farm is now being harvested, which is turning out an enormous crop, and the person in charge of the cutting says the output in pounds will exceed anything he has yet cut or seen. The forty acres of beets also on this ranch is the finest crop in this section of the country, which demonstrates that the manager of the Utah Sugar company made no mistake in buying this place for a sugar beet seed farm. ''Below are the Utah Sugar company's com-pany's beet districts, with the respective respec-tive acreage in each: "Murray, 6Gi; Lovendahl's, 26Si; West Jordan, 641; Crescent, 138; Riv-erton, Riv-erton, 135; Lehi, 1,235; Utah Sugar Co., 125; American Fork, 235; Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, 332i; Lake View, 249i; Provo, 354; Springville, 943i; Mapleton, Maple-ton, 3294; Spanish Fork, 625$; Benjamin, Benja-min, 231; Payson, 432; Mt.
