"Cooper Special,'' and weighs only 18 pounds The Monarch Mon-arch makes are the only wheels with a record in this town. Lots of them are being sol 1 this year. On Friday evening Jesse Kirkman, mounted on a horse and driving home his father's cow-, was thrown to the ground and suffered a serio-.is compound com-pound fracture of the arm. It required re-quired about three hours in which to dress the injury. The lad was seven y;ars old, and a son of Robert Kirkman, Kirk-man, of the First ward. The editor of The Independent paid Lehi a visit. Friday, and walked himself about the town for a couple of hours. Lehi looks like a very good town. Her streets do not covjr as much territory as Spring die's, but are very much more nicely graded. Citizens say that prohibition in Lehi i a vert "bum" article. Unless a woman cats sufficient nourishing food she can neit her gain nor keep a good complexion. Food, when digested, is the base of all health, ail strength, and all beauty. Several days since Sheriff Storrs received re-ceived word of an 11-yearold mulatto boy running away from his home in Mercur. Provo Democrat. Deal Bros. & Mendenhall and II. & T. Roylance, of this city, have had the four miles of grade in Provo canyon can-yon between mile posts 14 and 18 tacked onto their present contracts, on the Pai k City extension. It looks as if the road would reach some of the Wasatch county towns by fall. Everything is moving iu that direction direc-tion with deliberation. The Rio. Grande Western has a new clock for the waiting room at the depot. This will save a great deal of ' rubber-necking" on the part of the public, and be a good thing all around. The floors of the various rooms in the depot have been treated to a coat of oil which prevents dust, and things down there generally are as slick as the talk of a life insurance man. The only business before the District Dis-trict court, in Provo, Tucsi'a-, was the case of Violet Urie vs. R. G. W., coming up for trial, and m attorney appearing for the plaintiff, the case was. on motion of defendant, dismissed dis-missed at plaintiff's cost. The plaintiff plain-tiff sued for $10,000 on account of the death "of her son, who was an employe em-ploye of the R. G. W. Ry. Co. at the time. All the jurors were discharged for the term. We congratulate oar sister city, Springville, on its assurance of a beet sugar factory, work on the plant, according ac-cording to The Independent, having hav-ing already commenced. The exteut of Payson's new industries, so far this year.is a milk skimmer, which has been started Ly the Springville creameo. Payson, however, is all right and is far ahead of other cities iu Utah in many respects, but new industries would help the town wonderfully, won-derfully, and be gUdly welcomed. Payson Globe-Header. Last Friday afternoon while Pat Ward's section crew was coming in from the north they found a danger signal lamp near the Provo end of the section broken, and a keg placed on the track. Three small boys were near by, and Pat's meu gathered two of them in and run the other into the brush. The lads were disposed to be quite saucy, and Pat brought, them to Springville to give them a chance to think matters over. They were soon after released on the application of their parents. No complaint was filed. One of the boys was highly indignant in-dignant because the railroad people wouldn't sen.l him home in a carriage. W. T. Bowman has opened an ice cream parlor in the Deal building acioss the street from the post office. He will deal in quart lots, principally, it is said. Dr. C. J. Peterson came home from Marysvale, Sunday afternoon. While in the south he visited and inspected the mining property of the Madsen Mining & Milling Co. on Gold Mountain, Moun-tain, and is very enthusiastic over the outlook for this property, in which he is heavily interested. The pyoperty has five well defined veins upon it, one of which is seven feet in extent. It assays $22 in gold per ton. The Iieeslcy Marble Works, of Provo, erected a fine monument in ll e city cemetery this week for Mrs. Daniel J. Alleman, to the memory of her husband. It is of imported Italian Ital-ian marble, and stands about nine feet high. This monument for design and workmanship is without doubt as fine an article us has ever been seen here. It was all done at the Provo shop of the Messrs. dBeesley. It is well worth anyone's while to examine ex-amine the detail and execution of this piece of work. For the past year Postmaster D011-gall D011-gall has been trying to induce Dr. Smart and the editor of Tiie Independent Inde-pendent to quit' smoking, brace up and be decent men. His labors have borne fruit. Doc has lopped uoe off his daily allowance of cigarettes and wouldn't smoke a 'cigar without day's wages, while Gibson smokes 100 per cent more ihan ever, and his chair-warmer chair-warmer friends have been forced to quit buying tobacco. Curtis announced his intention of carrying the case to the. supreme court, but evidently changed his mind, as he is now in the care of Marshal Gemmel. Tuesday, Springville's streets were alive witn teams going to the circus from points below here. The roar of str eet trafiie was like that of Salt Lake. Dur ing the afternoon the same scene wis repeated, the travel being then in the direction of home, to which people were now transporting a precious freight of dearly bought experience and circus lemonade. A most interesting article on graphology graph-ology is published in the June LmHrx' Ho iic Journal. The author, who is an adept in the science, presents a variety vari-ety of specimens of chirograph v, enough to embody all the various forms and principles of writing, and these she clearly interprets in her explanatory ex-planatory text. It is claimed tha' graphology has become a science, and that one's characteristics are unerringly uner-ringly revealed by his handwriting Whether this claim can be substantiated substan-tiated or not, tile subject is a pupular an-.l interesting one, and trie Jonm-d a art icle will afford a great deal id' entertainment. en-tertainment. 5o Yn iiiiow in :s preveniatde.y Science ' '-inmi't mss :s pn ::a- proven tb ii, and also that, neglect Is soicidi.il.
