She was a widow with three children - Arthur, Mary and Dora. "Mrs. Myrtle Conover mentioned in a contribution contri-bution regarding Sage Creek School teachers - a Miss McCarthy, and John and Andrew Morgan. (Some other teachers -Ella Williams, Hannah Friel and Mary Crandall - all taught in the old adobe ado-be school hoouse. Didn't teachers stay very long? HMMM?) Again, one thing that remains in Maud Hatch's memory - "the lack of sanitation san-itation around the school house, remains of lunches were thrown about the yard, and no receptacle for papers or rubbish." Another recollection was the scrawling of sayings say-ings on walls, one in particular par-ticular - "Don't steal this Library Corner Next week the Springville Spring-ville Library is having a special evening program for girls ages 3 to 6. "According to Le-Moyne Le-Moyne Hatch, more fights occurred on the school grounds there, most of which did start within the school room than Le-Moyne Le-Moyne witnessed in all the years since, and he was quite a fight fan. The combatants involved Will Brammall, Henry Fullmer, will Rothwell and can you believe, LeMoyne Hatch! "In Philip Houtz times spellling bees were such fun, and he often called the whole school together for such a test. Arthur and Ray Bartlett were among the best pupils studiously in the school. "Cleo Pierce mentions a memory pertaining to the Cedarlund sisters. Remember Re-member their mother was a widowed school teacher. I am sure they were quite poor, but had great spirit for inventing fun things to play with. They had a doll hat store, where hats were sold for so many pins apiece, and I remem-beer remem-beer one elegant one that cost a whole nickel! Another contribution from Pierce said, "With delight de-light were the times spent in the old picnic grove in the First Ward. (Where was this grove and where are the trees now and what kind of trees?) And Peterson's corner, when it was the general meeting meet-ing place for all those who went to pick strawberries on the Provo Bench. (This corner was 900 S. and 400 East.) Mr. Peterson had a little store located there, directly across from the Sage Creek School, and sold the best penny candy in town.
