Thurs-day. This was, indeed, the last match of the tennis season. It started at 3 p.m. on the tennis courts as the Mapleton girls walked outside out-side to see Mt. Nebo practicing prac-ticing eagerly. They wore nice maroon and white uniforms, and looked like good competition. It all began with an opening speech from Coach Jex. The girls laughed and cheered and met the other team's coach, Coach Barney.. Bar-ney.. The tennis matches began. be-gan. The MJHS 1st Seat Varsity singles player, Kim Collingsworth, played against the Mt. Nebo top player, McKen-zie McKen-zie Saunders. The game was intense. Kim started it off well, winning her opponent op-ponent 40-0. The second game, however, McKenzie won 40-0. Kim got ahead, and then McKenzie would just come back. After the girls had played twelve straight games, they were at 6-6. I tie breaker was needed, and Kim finally J ;X l it " ; ri' I i ' Seventh Grade student Taylor Murphy and two Mt. New Addition to Commons Area Katelyn Card MJHS STAFF WRITER As students filed in to the halls of MJHS at the beginning be-ginning of this year, some students noticed the brand new trophy cases hanging hang-ing in the commons area. Although these cases only look like a decoration, they serve a purpose as well as look nice. In past years, MJHS has had many students and teams recognized, by putting put-ting their pictures, trophies, and certificates in the glass cases by Mrs. Card's art room. The only problem with having them there' is that hardly any parents or visitors go down that hallway. Where the new trophy cases are now, they will be able to recognize the great students who deserve to be noticed. Another interesting thing about the new trophy cases is that they were made by Maple Landing. This company com-pany not only made well-built well-built cabinets, but they also gave a two thousand dollar donation simply because they care. The owner of the company has a son that goes to MJHS, and he really re-ally cares about him and his peers. As students and faculty at MJHS we would really like to thank this company for what they have done for us! n p r n r T "Ti- - SI J 1 1 j i I ' : . . j A CLYPE COMPANY 0 35 E. 400 S. - Springville 491-2600 GARDEN - LUMBER HARDWARE PLUMBING ELECTRICAL AUTOMOTIVE PAINT - TOOLS All your home hardware needs! won 7-6. In the end Maple-ton Maple-ton won Mt. Nebo. More importantly, the girls learned a lot of great lessons from the Mt. Nebo players. Throughout the entire day, the Mt. Nebo players had been doing do-ing great acts of sportsmanship sports-manship and kindness. In the very beginning, two young players from MNJH asked who they would be playing. They wanted to meet them and become friends! All during Kim's and McKenzie's game, the Mt. Nebo teammates cheered for both McKenzie and Kim. From the sidelines, viewing the game, the kind opposing team would talk to and befriend the big group of mustangs. Even while playing these girls, they would always be sure to say, "Good job" or "Nice try." And the MJHS team was nice back. It shows a lot about a team that is that fun to play. In the end, MJHS won, but that wasn't really re-ally what counted most. What counted was the friendships built, the kindness kind-ness displayed, and the love shown between the two teams that barely knew each other.
