I , .1 if r Embrace Your y Destiny! M !i" '.t)si MHJS Cross Country Logan Jacobs MJHS STAFF WRITER On August 22, the new Mapleton Jr. High School Cross Country Team piled into the gym. The seats were almost filled. Coach Wyatt started start-ed his lecture in his signature manner, "If you are lucky you will be able to represent your school three times: first, in jr. high; then, if you are lucky, in high school; then, if you are really lucky, in college." Then Coach Wyatt continued with the release forms and the information on how the fee is 25 dollars to participate. The boys' track team will miss last year's star, Christian Storrs, who placed 2nd in district. . . The girls' team will also be missing a star, Ha-" ley Knapp, who also placed 2nd in district. But, to pick up the slack are veteran runners Malia Brady and Sara Hash who placed in districts last year. The Sixth Gear: 2008 Buick Enclave Daniel Souza STAFF WRITER Starting at less than $33,000 MSRP, the 2008 Enclave En-clave offers better fuel economy, econ-omy, is quieter and roomier inside when compared with its counterparts. Buick's SUV brings noteworthy luxury features to the table. It is also loaded with standard stan-dard equipment and offers impressive warranty coverage. cover-age. The Enclave is available in CX and CXL trim levels, with eight exterior and three interior colors, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, a 275-horsepower V-6 pow-ertrain pow-ertrain featuring variable valve timing (WT) and mated mat-ed to Buick's first six-speed automatic transmission. With EPA fuel economy ratings of 16 city and 24 highway high-way for FWD models and 16 city and 22 highway for AWD models, the Enclave is the most fuel efficient eight-passenger eight-passenger SUV on the road (fuel economy ratings based on EPA's new, reformulated test procedures that are required re-quired for all manufacturers' manufactur-ers' vehicles starting with the 2008 model year). . But the fuel efficiency comes at a price. The Enclave En-clave struggled going to point-of-the-mountain on 1-15 with its underpowered V-6. The SUV kept on shifting to a stronger gear. When the desired speed came while going uphill, it would shift back to fifth and sixth gear, just in time to reduce to fifth and fourth again, until of course I could see Bluff dale on my left and the struggle ended. And the vehicle wasn't loaded for the family's yearly trip to grad-ma's grad-ma's house. WW ; .'0. ihtf k1i- ills The lack of vitality vital-ity seemed to be made up with great features drivers will find once they step inside in-side Buick's well mannered SUV. . Much of the Enclave's standard equipment however howev-er is focused around customer custom-er convenience and comfort. For example, the front-row center console armrest slides back and forth for personalized personal-ized comfort and access to the lower console storage . area The storage area is equipped with a pull-out tray that reveals a deep space of more than 60 cubic inches (1 liter) for storing items such as bottled water or a small purse. Enclave's elevated footrest, or "dead pedal," adds comfort for drivers with high-heel shoes while the power liftgate activates conveniently with a touch of one button. Other key standard features fea-tures include xenon high-intensity discharge headlamps, tire pressure monitoring syste, stabilitrak electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation technology, technol-ogy, leather-wrapped, real mahogany wood-accented steering wheel, a very convenient con-venient tri-zone climate control, con-trol, etc. For added flexibility, Buick's only SUV has more than two dozen storage areas, ar-eas, including an optional second-row center console with a deep storage compartment com-partment and 12-volt power outlet, two cupholders and pull-out tray. It is also capable ca-pable of folding flat into the load floor. Base Price - $32,790 Price as tested - $39,835 1790 S.
