SHS swimmers taught their region competitors an impressive lesson on the value of TEAMWORK: Together To-gether Everyone Achieves More! The Red Devils dominated the Region VII swimming championships and posted a combined team score of 615 with their nearest competitor, Timpview's Thunderbirds, scoring a distant 460 total points. This past Friday and Saturday, the mighty Red Devil Boys' Swim Team displayed the solid character, charac-ter, unity, talent and depth, that has carried them through the crucible of this year's season, forged by a series of unexpected and , potentially devastating refiners' re-finers' fires (i.e. Cryptosporidium Cryptospo-ridium outbreaks, pool closures, clo-sures, equipment failure, boiler leaks and the like). Yet, closely bonded and well-trained under the direction di-rection of Head Coach Amyee Hargett and Assistant As-sistant Coach Mindy Workman, these dedicated athletes translated their shared trials into a triumphant trium-phant Region VII victory. SHS Boys' Swim Team earned their championship title by posting an unprecedented unprec-edented score of 403, an astounding 170 point mar gin win over the 2nd place team, Tooele. The Red Devils proved to be the class of their 4A competition, sweeping all three relay events. Collectively, Collec-tively, swimmers posted best times to improve their state relay rankings in both the 200 Medley (1:44.68) and 200 Free (1:33.18): Swimming Back - Co-Capt. Tim Call (12), Breast - Co-Capt. Co-Capt. Daniel Simmons (12), Fly - Calvin Clark (10), Free - Bryant Taylor (12); Leadoff-Call(12),2ndleg - Garrett Pope (11), 3rd leg - Simmons (12), Anchor -EricBuzbee(12). In the final event of the meet (often termed "the glory relay" and traditionally tradition-ally heralded with the playing play-ing of the "William Tell Overture"), the first two legs were swum by sophomores sopho-mores Calvin Clark and Cody Fullmer, who then made the exchange with seniors Eric Buzbee and anchor, an-chor, Bryant Taylor. Coach Hargett and Co-Captains Daniel Simmons and Tim ,, Call had predetermined, that their 400 Free relay for both region and state would serve as a symbolic statement - a reflection of the TEAM spirit and talented talent-ed contributions that have characterized this season's - - - - if V ' J- The Red Devil Boy's Swim Team were triumphant in winning the Region VII championship by a wide margin. See Swimmers page 12 Evolutions of Dance performance Ashby Miner SHS STAFF WRITER The SHS drill team was invited to perform in the Evolutions of Dance show at Vibe studio in Lindon on Friday the 18th. The D'velles danced to a compilation of "sixties" songs. The genres included hip hop, jazz, and ballroom. The Dance Company performed on Saturday and there will be two more performances at the Covey Arts Center on the 26th and 28th. The Evolutions of Dance show consist of many teams and dances that represent different types of dances throughout the years, both shows went exceptionally ex-ceptionally well The shows are fun and entertaining to attend so we invite you to come to the last two shows of The Evolutions of Dance.
