LJ : 1 Kurt Averett, son of Steve and Nanette Averett, has been selected the Varsity Defensive Player of the Week for the SHS Boys Basketball Team. Kurt had four blocked shots in the overtime win against Mountain View. Brad Kohler, son of Dave and Sheryl Kohler, has been selected the Varsity Offensive Player of the Week for the SHS Boys Basketball Team. SI i Taylor Sandage and William Lee SHS STAFF WRITERS Justin Elmer, a senior at Springville High, is working an internship at Rocky Mountain Welding and Fabrication. Justin has learned how to build garbage cans and ensure that they are in perfect working condition. Justin Jus-tin is also responsible for checking the cans for holes, then repairing them, so that customers won't be left with garbage cans that leak on driveways drive-ways and sidewalks. Justin is experienced when it comes to welding weld-ing and has some basic knowledge in repairing diesel trucks. When Justin was a young boy he used to watch his dad work on heavy equipment. Since that time, he has wanted : .: I 4 .- . :m. to become a diesel mechanic me-chanic and welder. Justin loves more than anything hearing a clean running diesel engine truck driving driv-ing up the road to pick up another load of garbage cans that he recently welded. Josh Martinez SHS STAFF WRITER Sarah Clark, a senior at Springville high school, is an intern at Sunrise Home Health;' She works two hours a day as a C.N.A (Certified nursing assistant). assis-tant). The patients she has the opportunity to work with are generally elderly and some younger patients that are disabled. The patients still live at home, however, they still struggle in some areas. One of Sarah's responsibilities responsi-bilities is home health. This is where she drives to a patient's house to provide care. She has to help the patient with at least three personal care items. She then helps them with extra ex-tra things. Some of those things include preparing rrmeals; helpingrthem clean ' up the house, or anything else that they might need. Her visits are supposed to last anywhere from i 45 minutes to 1 hour. She helps patients morning and night. - This job has taught Sarah responsibility j She needs to work around her plans as well as her patient's plans. She has also learned . patience, kindness, sympathy, sympa-thy, and compassion. She is very happy with what JI Sarah Clark she has because she doesn't have to rely on others like her patients do. v Sarah loves helping people peo-ple that are in need but she would rather work -with children and infants. McKade Hatfield and Andrew Mertz were the top readers from the 4th grade. The 5th grade top readers were Spencer Staheli and Andrew Nicol. Matt Niu and Tanner White were the top 6th grade readers.
