Babbitt SPRING VILLE HERALD A 13-foot -tall clay sculpture was delicately lifted out of the historic Reynolds Building in downtown Springville on Friday afternoon as part of local artist Gary Lee Price's work to relocate relo-cate his studio. A crane extended its arm over the building and slowly lowered a hook down toward the roof ' where a skylight had been removed. re-moved. The sculpture, located on the third floor of the building, build-ing, was attached to the hook, lifted up through the skylight and eased down to the street where it was placed on a trailer for transport. Titled the "Statue of Responsibility," Responsi-bility," the sculpture was too big to remove it from the building any other way, said Ken Donnelly, Don-nelly, business manager of Gary Price Studios. In addition to measuring mea-suring 13 feet high, the sculpture weighs about 2,000 pounds. Donnelly said the sculpture has a steel pole inside it; a hook was welded to the top of this pole to allow the sculpture to be moved. It was covered in an industrial plastic wrap to protect the clay from damage. Springville resident Gary Lee Price and his wife Lanea purchased pur-chased the Reynolds Building in 1996; the building is located on the northwest corner of the 200 South and Main Street intersection. intersec-tion. They sold three platinum plati-num albums and went on three See JETS CONCERT on page 10 '- - - ; ' Animal Quit show now at Art Museum The 34th Annual Quilt Show opened Sunday at the Springville Museum of Art. The popular exhibit ex-hibit runs through September 2. Hosted by the Springville museum mu-seum partnered with the Utah Valley Quilt Guild, the show emphasizes em-phasizes the outstanding creative talent currently being done by fiber artists from all over Utah. It is one of the museum's most "popular events," according to museum staff. Visitors are encouraged to come and experience the art of quilting first hand and free of charge. The many quilts have been submitted and judged 1111 61055 0005 0"8 based on artistic expressions as well as quality. An awards ceremony cer-emony was held July 18th in a celebration of fiber art and artists art-ists achievements. Honoring all the artists with a formal reception provided the opportunity for quitters to come together and see the work of other artists from the State of Utah. The jurors of this year's Quilt Show were Jody Jorgensen and Paula Devey McKinlay. They are quilting experts and were responsible re-sponsible for critiquing and judging judg-ing the variety of quilts. Quilts were critiqued oh workmanship, design, color, originality and general appeal Awards such as "Best of Show" and "Directors Award" were two of the seven teen ribbons awarded. In addition to the quilts in the show, several "invited" quitters works can be seen in the Neleka Gallery, and fiber artist Jenny Lee Snow has a collection of her works in the Hafen-Dallin gallery. gal-lery. Snow is the featured artist, and her works are titled, "Painted "Paint-ed Quilts or Quilted Paintings?" According to Kyle Kemble, the Annual Quilt Show is an opportunity oppor-tunity to celebrate the fine artis tic qualities pf quilting. He said he is, "pleased that the museum gives space to the quilts "which have so often been relegated to the term 'craft'."
