The right of parents to control their childrenis education ed-ucation is one of those unalienable, un-alienable, God-given rights that are not up for grabs by government in the first place. The fact that government govern-ment has grossly usurped the role of parents in public schools for decades doesrrit change that. You will not find one word about education in the U.S. Constitution, because be-cause in colonial America all education was private. Much was also religious and charitable in nature. Indeed, in Boston alone, there were more charity schools than there were poor to fill them. Two juveniles were caught this past week "decorating"' "decorat-ing"' railroad underpass in Springville. They were cited for criminal mischief 'graffiti. These "decorations" regularly appear along the wall leading to the high school from Brookside Subdivision, a secluded area where vandals can take their spray cans and have at it. A citizen regularly goes there and paints over the "art." Graffiti is a problem in our community. Police are continually con-tinually receiving calls for the destructive behavior. And someone has to go and paint over the vandalism. On Easter Sunday, members of a Hobble Creek West LDS Stake ward arrived at their church to find graffiti on parts of their church building. Not a welcome site on this special day. Last August in Springville one of the most beautiful church buildings in the state was vandalized beyond repair re-pair and set fire. The past few weeks we have watched as bulldozers pushed the remains of that wonderful building over. It is gone. Gone because of persons seeking some sort of thrill or revenge or something? Could it be that these young people have nothing better to do? What possesses anyone to destroy the property of others? oth-ers? What have these vandals been taught? Perhaps noth- Do they think about the cost of repair or replacement? Maybe their parents should be held responsible. Does anyone question when teenagers are purchasing lots of spray paint? Do parents know where their young people are and what they are doing? What can we do to stop the destructive vandalism in our community?
