Ask a Specialist; Does eatin to be a deep Answer by :'Nedra Chris-; tensen, Utah State University Univer-sity Extension Nutrition and Food Science Specialist Dark chocolate is derived from the plant Theobroma cacao. This plant is a rich source of flavonoids, which are powerful antioxidants associated with reduction in the risk of heart attacks and cancer. They also help maintain strong bones, teeth and healthy skin. The percentage of cocoa solids is critical in providing provid-ing the benefits of chocolate to health. Dark chocolate . (bittersweet or semisweet chocolate) has up to 75 percent per-cent cocoa solids, whereas milk chocolate has approximately approxi-mately 20 percent cocoa solids and white chocolate ' has no cocoa solids. Additional health benef its of dark chocolate include:- ; Reduced cardiovascular cardiovascu-lar mortality. In a 15-year study of elderly men, there was a 50 percent reduction in cardiovascular mortality and a 47 percent reduction in all cases of mortality for those eating the highest amount of cocoa compared to those eating the least amount of cocoa. , Improved mood. Liz Elder Okay, so we walk into Sizzler the other night. We're going to celebrate cel-ebrate our love, going for a late Valentineis Day treat. Except that, here's the deal: I can't stand Sizzler! I d6n't know why we're going. There's been a no-Sizzler moratorium at our house for several years, and suddenly, it's been broken. I suggest Chuck-a-Rama and Ruby River. Taco Bell. But no, here we are at my least favorite restaurant restau-rant in the world. Why, you ask me, why don't you like Sizzler, Liz? Well, here's why. At Chuck-a-Rama, you at least have people walking around looking at the food, asking questions like, "Where's the prime rib?" and "Are you guys getting more ham?" My favorite place is Golden Corral where you see so many families: little boys with their plates piled high with mashed potatoes, moms with piles of shrimp shells and little carrot strips of left over salad. I love it when you see people walking walk-ing around, looking at the various offerings like they tistic merit for inclusion in the exhibit. The works exhibited ex-hibited will be eligible for awards and recognition. "A student art exhibit is a traditional part of a quality qual-ity art education," said Marcus Vincent, Woodbury Wood-bury director. "This is an opportunity for students to compete with their peers for recognition and monetary mon-etary awards. The exhibit will ultimately reveal the best artistic talent within the UVSC student body." ft Iffy Light Her Fire. At Sizzler, there is a morgue of eaters; no one does anything, and I mean anything, but eat. No one looks up, no one talks except ex-cept to say, "I'm going back to the salad bar." People sit staring at the air in front of them. No one is dining, everyone is just eating. I's like the cafeteria at a prison. I don't know why Sizzler attracts these people. It is like there's a sign out front saying, "Come here if you're really bored with life and want to get full." Eating at Sizzler is like a Halloween party for old people. I have a confession to make--last Sunday we went to Sunday brunch. I completely understand that I'm going to hell, but this was a special family fam-ily occasion. Also, I love Sunday brunch so much it seems like, while I am there, it will be worth the discussion with the Lord in the end. At least I really hope so. I have a whole history of Sunday brunches with my parents, who have passed away. In other words, they are gone, dead, never to be seen again here in the flesh by my sister or me. I think this alone should be a good reason for it to be okay for me to have brunch occasionally, like once a year, on Sunday. This is my link with them; unfortunately unfor-tunately it's on Sunday, a time when I have officially covenanted to eat pot roast and potatoes at home. But I remember wonderful won-derful times spent when I was a little girl, making momentous decisions with my dad about what to have for dessert, the chocolate cake or the huge thing with whipped cream. My dad loved oysters and he had really big lips that he would smack after every one. Oh my gosh, it was fabulous. My hubby can't understand how I could possibly like oysters, but this is why. If he could have seen my dad eating them, he would now be an oyster salesman instead of a builder. I would not have this memory if we had been at Sizzler eating hot wings like a dead person. Stuffing our mouths with cheese bread and greasy baked potatoes with mountains of sour cream and butter. And not talking about dessert.
