Nineteen teams competed with the Red Devils taking home the second place trophy. Shown above are, back: Bronzson Woods, Tim Call and Taylor Cooper. Sam Tsugawa Springville High School has honored music teacher Sam Tsugawa with an Excellence Excel-lence in Service Award. Tsugawa is the orchestra director di-rector at the Springville Junior Ju-nior and Senior ... . High Schools. Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Tsugawa received a bachelor of music degree from Brigham Young University Uni-versity in 1987 and a masters of music from BYU in 1993. A skilled trombonist, Tsugawa Tsug-awa served as drum major of the BYU Marching Band during his undergraduate years. He has been an orchestra or-chestra director in Nebo School District since 1988, teaching at Springville Middle, Mid-dle, Jr. High and High Schools. He is credited with growing grow-ing the orchestra program in grades 6 through 12 from 75 students in 1988 to over 500 students today. In addition to his school duties, du-ties, Tsugawa is active as a conductor of local youth orchestras, or-chestras, serving as the Music Mu-sic Director of the Nebo Youth Symphony since 2000 and as Associate Conductor of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony from 1993 to 2003. Recognized for his leadership, leader-ship, Tsugawa has served as See Sam page 12 On February 3rd and 4th the Springville Red Devil State Swim Team competed at the Utah State 4A Championship Champi-onship Meet held at BYU. Nineteen teams from in the 4A ranking competed for the title with the Springville Red Devils Boys team finishing in 2nd place, tied with Orem. In the Mens 200 Yard Medley Med-ley Relay, consisting of Daniel Simmons, Alex Behnke, Mike Buzbee and Bryant Taylor, finished 2nd with at time of 1:44.01. Eric Buzbee finished 5th with a time of 1:51.41 in the Mens 200 Yard Freestyle with Bronzson Woods finishing 12th (1:56.72) and Taylor Cooper finishing 15th (1:57.34). In the Mens 200 Yard Individual Indi-vidual Medley, Daniel Simmons Sim-mons finished 4th with a time of 2:08.73. Bryant Taylor Tay-lor finished 3rd with a time of 22.43 in the Mens 50 Yard Freestyle.
