Show 16 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, November 24, 2005 M 0 THANKFUL TO BE ABLE TO HEAR AGAM! A Dear Friends and Neighbors, hill. It barely I just wanted to take some time today to say how thankful I am to have my hearing back. Last night at family home evening I could actually hear the songs my grandchildren were singing. I didn't realize how important all of the little everyday sounds of life were to me. How long I had gone without hearing the fire crackling in the fireplace, bacon sizzling in the frying pan, the geese honking overhead as they headed south for the winter and the sweetest sound in the world, a little voice whispering, "I love you, Grandpa." My family is also very thankful that I can hear again, they say I seem much happier and I don't get grouchy as often. I think a lot of my problem came from getting so irritated at having to have everything repeated to me. I would also get startled easily since I wouldi ft hear people coming. I could tell my wife was getting tired of me asking her to translate for me, I really hated having to do that. All of these things and more really seemed to put me on edge. Everything came to a head this past summer on a family camping trip. The whole gang was out gathering firewood on the hillside above camp. We were cutting up dead aspen trees into useable logs before we rolled them down the hill to be stacked. I had gone down to help the grandkids gather and stack the logs, and as I bent down to fill my amis I was almost struck in the head with a log as it came rolling down the v A if. ; f I X 1 I missed my head but it did strike me squarely on the forearm breaking my wrist. My son was beside himself with guilt that he had hurt me, it wasn't his fault though it was all mine, I hadn't heard him calling to me to watch out. I was so used to living liv-ing in my world of silence that it hadn't even registered that I wasn't hearing him. On the way to the emergency room I decided then and there that I needed to find out what I could do to improve my hearing. hear-ing. My wife and I talked about our options and how we could afford hearing aids right now. Quality has always been a priority prior-ity for me whenever I make a purchase, but I was afraid that I would have to settle for less than the best since we were on a fixed income. The next week we began to do our homework on the best types of hearing aids and who provided them in our area. There were several professionals profes-sionals to choose from so I asked around at the senior center to get some personal recommendations. recommenda-tions. The name I heard mentioned most often was Harris Hearing. Hear-ing. It seemed like over half the people with hearing aids had bought them from Robert Harris. One of the ladies showed me an ad that was printed in the newspaper that day it said that you could get 2 hearing aids for the price of 1. It sounded like a gimmick to me and that was what I told her. Her response to me was, "Well, I'm not old enough or senile enough that I would fall for a gimmick! I bought my hearing aids from Harris Hearing and his price was so much lower than his competition com-petition that I did get 2 hearing hear-ing aids for what someone else wanted to charge me for 1! But don't believe me, call them for vourself!" That is exactly what I did later that dav. I came in the next week for my appointment and to have the free hearing test and video exam that was advertised. They also cleaned so much earwax out of my ears I couldn't believe it, that alone should have helped me hear better. I guess all the years of hunting and driving heavy equipment must have taken their toll because I was told I had a moderate to severe hearing hear-ing loss. After we compared the different differ-ent types of hearings aids that would work for me, my wife and I decided I should get the newer digital, in-the-canal type. The pricing was all over the board on the name brand hearing aids, one was over $6,000 for each ear! We were so relieved to find out that Harris Hear-' ing manufactures their own brand of hearing aids using the exact same components as the national brands. They have a huge advantage over the competition com-petition because they cut out the middleman and pass the savings on to their customers, making it possible to buy 2 hearing aids for the price of 1 national brand. That was why I decided to buy his ActiveEar brand of hearing aids. The quality of my new hearing aids is just great and the guarantee that came with them was more that I could have asked for. If I have any problem with how they fit, or how they feel, or even the way they sound, Harris Hearing will refit me, give me a different brand or whatever it takes to make me happy. And it won't cost me a thing! I got exactly what I expected and more at Harris Hearing Center, high quality hearing aids at a reasonable price. When Robert Harris asked me if I would mind writing a testimonial for him to use in his advertising I jumped at the chance. I am so grateful to have my hearing back and to have found a good friend too. I highly recommend to anyone who has a hearing loss to come in for the free test thev offer. Come in to their office at 330 West Center in Provo and find out for yourself. Call Renea or Kim at 373-6827 you have nothing to lose and all the sounds of your life to gain.
